Status ?? NOD32 and Thunderbird

Any chance to find out, when NOD32 AV will be fully integrated in Thunderbird again ( currently with rev 10.0.1)? I know there are quite a few posts around this topic, but I wanted to raise developpers attention again. It gives a bad picture of an AV solution when a typical mail app reports incompatibility............

 

We are currectly discussing adding support for Thunderbird ESR intended mainly for corporate environment.

 

That is not good enough.

 

This has already been discussed here. I doubt there's a single security vendor with support for all versions of Thunderbird. It's simply beyond any vendor's capabilities to catch up with the RapidRelease process that Mozilla has introduced. It's not just about writing or changing a few lines of a code; huge parts of the existing code need to be rewritten in order to support newer versions with significant changes preventing backwards compatibility. Needless to say that ESET has several product brands, each with 4 installers for various OS and localized into more than 30 languages, each requiring in-depth testing before a release.

 

Is supporting specific releases or at reasonable intervals (twice a year) under consideration? There are multiple add-ins (most no where near as important as ESET) that are in the same boat.

Would anyone care to suggest another windows compatible open source mail/ calendar tool?

 

I would not think that keeping up with releases of Thunderbird should be an issue, as the latest updates only have to do with the included browser module (Firefox) but not with the 'mailing piece' of software where NOD should hook up. Major release changes are not happening more often than with MS Outlook (2003,2007,2010.. ). And there are I would believe more Thunderbird users (plus those on the same mozilla platform, than people really using Outlook....

 

I've used Thunderbird and NOD32 for the past five years and ESSE has worked for some versions and not for others. However I only use POP3 and NOD32 has this covered whether or not ESSE works with whatever version of Thunderbird you use.
So for me it's only a minor annoyance not a major issue.

Yes you are protected. It's only the Thunderbird Extension that doesn't work.

as marcos and others have said its checked regardless of the plug in. personally i dont need the plug in i could care less if the mail is checked..
