Is it possible to disable the autosandbox in avast free? :doubt:

Yes you can. The question is, why would you want to? It's one of the key features in avast! 7 (even more than it was before because of the analysis involved in it that were not present before).

i want to know if the cloud feature will make avast upload files to server or download any additional database on the pc?

    RejZoR Lurker

No. Cloud feature doesn't upload any files anywhere. It's also not storing any special databases locally. It does however help to keep your system in sync with the Streaming Updates server which in return downloads Streaming Updates.

avast! will however upload suspicious and heuristically detected samples through CommunityIQ. But just that. It will not upload anything anywhere to do a scanning like Comodo does for example.

Does CommunityIQ really upload complete samples or is it more like reverse signatures?

I would rather keep the freedom of customized installs and give users a warning when they de-select shields during install(or remove later) This warning could contain a link to an article in the help file or on the web with more detailed info on the shield dependencies.

CommunityIQ is just a statistical feedback along with sample submissions (when suspicious sample is detected). It doesn't scan anything as is (it's not a scanning feature, it's a feedback system that sends useful info to avast! team regarding infections).

But why complicate things when there is no need to? My way you make things simple. Your way, you add even more things (warnings). Sometimes less is more.
I don't see much point in removing individual shields. You won't gain any extra performance, you won't make it use any less memory (6-8 MB is VERY low by all standards). What you'll do by removing them is just make protection worse. It's like taking airbags out of the car because you want to save weight. Big separate components should still be modular (WebRep, Firewall, AntiSpam) but all shields should always be installed.

It would be nice to know what shield(s) that each feature requires.
For instance: If you disable the Web Shield, does that completely remove the ability to utilise the FileRep database? or is the FileRep database also used within the File Shield, Behaviour Shield and so on...

Downloaded and tried this new avast, noticed that webshield is still not working with admuncher and uninstalled. Disappointed.. again. Tried everything, excluded it.. modified webshield.ini and added optinprocess=admunch.exe but still no. Not gonna try avast never again in future.

Well, removing File System Shield effectively removes Auto Sandboxing. Removing Web Shield will remove FileRep functionality. Removing Behavior Shield will remove Auto Sandbox analysis summary (as far as i understand it).

You're making it sound like it's the end of the world. I suggest you ask on official avast! forums, i'm sure someone is using AdMuncher there (remember seeing the name around few times). There are far better alternatives like AdBlock which work perfectly fine.

What do you mean by under 1 shield?

Do you mean that they should be under 1 shield but under that 1 shield they should have their seperate settings? or under 1 shield you mean a mix of all the shield with common settings?

I mean compacting them into 1 shield. File System Shield and Script Shield for example do the same thing. Scan files. Even File System Shield scans script files. So why have them separated? Just to have 2 graphs? Rather pointless if you ask me. Same for IM and P2P and everything else i mentioned. Essentially they protect you from "internet" threats so they could easily be put together.
Simplification without limiting functionality too much is sort of a must. But i don't want to go the way of big status icon and 2 buttons. But we certainly don't need 10 separate shields where half of them control the same thing.

No, I didn't mean it that way. It sure isn't end of the world! I'm not a big fan of avast and I was just curious if they've done something about that admuncher issue with this new version but no. Maybe avast is good maybe not but I've never really liked it and I don't know why. :doubt: I don't like adblock either but I do love admuncher!! :-*

    I am little confused.

If suppose IM Shield & P2P Shield are compacted under 1 shield, what would be the settings for them, they will share 1 common settings i.e whaever settings changed it will affect both or they will have seperate settings & one's settings changed will not affect other?
