Anyone Else Not Running AV?

Just curious to see if anyone else out there is not running a antivirus. I am running W7 x64 Home Premium, with Comodo Firewall & Defense + and Sandboxie Paid. I use MBAM and/or HMP daily as my ondemand scanner........Anyone else?

I tried comodo firewall, sandboxie and appguard for a while. I would have kept it if appguard cooperated.

 

Lots of us don't use AVs.

 

I guess I just feel pretty well bullet proof with just Sandboxie, much less CFW/D+

I used to run Nod32, TrendMicro Titanium Antivrus + and Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2012 back in the days but was annoyed by the realtime scans and sceduled scans all the time. Also most good antivirus vendors only offer 1year licenses for their product...Then heard about virtualization software and watched some videos on youtube about theses kind of softwares and was amazed immediately...Tried out many programs like shadow defender, faronics deepfreeze, toolwiz timefreeze, wtf, Bufferzone, md etc... Ran Appguard + Shadow Defender for quiet a while but then got my new SSD and replaced SD with Sandbboxie. Also it's quiet nice that these programs offer lifetime licenses. Guess I will never ever use and Antivirus again, I don't even have an on demand scanner on my pc, just checking with hijackthis from time to time :]

 

Running my computer with only Sandboxie as my security against malware. No on-demand scanners, nothing!

 

Nothing real-time on the file system, which causes the most lag. I do have on-execution, linking scanning, and on-demand though.

 

No real time AV here for quite some time now. (Except occasional testing)

 

I can't understand why a real-time AV isn't essential when running in 'virtual (shadow) mode'. Even assuming that rebooting will clear out any malware that invaded your system while running virtualized, it seems to me that privacy/identity issues still exist (while virtualized) and could be compromized without a real-time AV.

I understand your point of view. There are however a few who use their computer without any other untrustworthy user having access to it. For us, it is safe enough to use alternative security software. Of course, this includes being very cautious about what you browse.

You can always argue about what is safe and what is not. You can always add an extra layer in your security setup. But what is enough and what do you have on your computer that is worth to protect? If you're running your daily-used computer without any important information or data on it, I simply don't see a reason to protect it "by all means necessary".

 

Quite a number of years back, the most security savvy were the ones running the AV. Now its the noobs who are relying on it while the more sophisticated users have moved on to bigger and better means to secure themselves.

 

No, I disagree. AVs still play an important role and can fit into a security setup regardless of whether or not they're "savvy."

I've learned most of my infections were coming from my browser or adobe exploits, thus I've moved all my browsing/ document editing into an isolated type 2 hypervisor. So no, I have not used an AV on my host for a long time, just a simple firewall.

 

Anti-virus is so 80s. But not in the good sense of 80s, because 80s were good.
OK then, anti-virus is so 70s.

But i do not run/test any software like most do so....

 

I've found that most people "running without AVs" are actually just doing manual scans of files or scanning once in a while. Why? Because they crave that definitive "This file is malicious" signal from them that sandboxing etc just can't give them.

AVs definitely still have their place - I would go so far as to say that a security setup would not be complete without one, though I don't much like the ones I see.

All three have Superantispyware + MBAM on demand,though,and for good measure.
I'm happy with all three configurations,no threat prevails.

 

Haven't run an AV for years.
