It sounds interesting and seems like some "another kind of roll-back"...I don't know any other aplication that use this technology

    As far as I understand,
hiberfil.sys will remain at the same state forever.

    One head scratching thing is:
    "Category:Antivirus Software" :D

With this approach, having multiple OSs at one machine no longer makes sense.
That's one problem I can think of and maybe the reason others don't use the approach.

Also has a boot to restore ability when in 'hibernation' mode, see pic

So it has the advantages of a "Shadow Mode" and will also provide a faster boot time?

Yep, sounds great. They have ToolWiz TimeFreeze also (a boot-to-restore solution), so they are able to boot into the virtual disk somehow.

I remember Sully having played with VHD of MicroSoft, see info http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744338(WS.10).aspx

Can't remember Sully's post, but they seem to have found a way of combining this :D

    *** Edit ***
It does not install the driver/hook so it does not work for me

Then how would you categorize this? I think the results are quite similar.

    The end results are similar.
    Implementations are quite different.
I think that's what majoMo wanted to say.:)

After trying ToolWiz's TimeFeeze I decided to give this program a try also. I was kind of confused as to what exactly this program did but now I think I'm getting an idea. BHORM seems to lock the hiberfil.sys file or creates a snapshot of it. Then instead of a normal power down the computer simply hibernates which, from what I understand, can also include a complete power down. By hibernating instead the system state is loaded from the locked hiberfil.sys or hiberfil.sys snapshot; which results in a "frozen" state.

I started BHORM on a test laptop of mine and then proceeded to try a little test to see how this works. I chose not to use malware to test since malware by design is meant to evade detection, and I wanted to cause deep system changes that I could easily detect (plus BHORM was not designed as a malware remediation program). I ended up just doing a system restore to a week ago when I had several different types of software installed and a few system configuration changes. The system went through the restore procedure and when it went to reboot; the system resumed back from my "frozen" or hibernated state. In short, apparently BHORM works to preserve your system state.

On a side note, the system resume wasn't any faster than a normal reboot for me. It took longer than the advertised 20 seconds either way.

Thank you for the detailed report, 1000db.

Locking hiberfil.sys to keep the system state is what I thought this program would do.
And it's good to hear it worked like advertised.

Regarding the speed of restore from hibernation,
My system takes comparable amount of time as reboot to resume the hibernated state.
So, the time needed to restore the old state is not a surprise for me.

Since you're giving up your normal hibernation function in order to achieve something easily accomplished with other boot to restore methods, it seems you're giving up a lot for a little. Doesn't anyone appreciate the hibernate function?

I don't think you will *give up a lot*.
But I agree that other methods have more room for offering nice things.
Not to mention it doesn't offer instant restoration as hibernation is suspend-to-disk, not to RAM.

In my opinion, this implementation is too inflexible.
Though not all that bad as long as this software does it's job accordingly.

My experience are not so interesting...honestly - I haven't any experience :) I tried to install BHORM and it was very easy and simply but only to the one moment...to the reboot. After restarting computer I had nothing..."black hole"...black screen with info "Memory error - 200 and something".
I tried restore system using Keriver 1-Click...hehe...and then also of course nothing...it was perhaps conflict between BHORM and Keriver, becouse both apps change MBR. So at the end of this story - thanks SARDU for your smart tools :) I recovered default state of MBR and my computer came back to living.
BHORM can be useful app but I think it shouldn't be tested/used when we still have other program like roll-back, snapshot and so on.
One question at the end...can BHORM make more thean one copy of hiberfile?
