VIPRE AV 2012 is v5.0.5074, and I believe that is most current.

Added Ghostery. Is there a way to get WOT to work with DuckDuckGo in Chrome?

If it doesn't work automatically then probably not. However, there are alternatives to WOT that are probably better - check out Norton DNS. I would have more faith in it than WOT to be honest.

No problem at all. Just bear in mind that if your using its filters to protect your web traffic you'll have to disable the P2P filter since that blocks a huge number of sites which don't have much to do with P2P. Of course, you could subsequently enable the P2P filter as required, but you should leave the spyware, exploit and ad filters on all of the time.

Though I know some people use it solely for it's P2P protection (which is dubious in my view) and don't bother with the web filtering.

Yesterday, Norton decided to find my taskbar icons suspicious and remove them, so I removed Norton. I've now purchased Kaspersky Anti-Virus and will use that going forward.

I got bored so I am giving Kaspersky Antivirus 2012 a go,seems to run good and pretty light.I like it allows to create short cuts on the desktop for full scan, critical area scan or vulnerability scan.

That's really a strange one! I can't say I blame you for removing Norton but I would be interested in learning if Kaspersky is anywhere near as light on PC-resources as Norton?

I've just recently been using kis 2012 and unlike in previous versions I've found it pretty light, not as light as cis but a huge improvement over past releases, I;m impressed. I haven't tested the new eset yet so I can't comment on that.

I've turned off File Guard in EAM, using it for on-demand and scheduled scans, it's nice having it a right-click away. EAM's Behavior Blocker (Mamutu) and Surf Protection are turned on.

I detect no difference in system impact between Norton and Kaspersky. The only difference I can see is that Kaspersky's system tray icon takes longer to appear at boot, but doesn't negatively impact performance. Overall, I'm very happy with it.

I sure did when I ran KIS a year ago! Perhaps you don't notice the difference that I did because you have ample processing resources whereas I'm on a barely adequate netbook. :doubt:

A week ago I added Panda Cloud AV Beta 1.9.1 to complement Shadow Defender and so far the two of them are working smoothly and effectively without any noticeable performance impact to my 5-year old laptop.

I see that most Wilders members here have more protection layers than I do, but I really don't feel that I need any more security apps. Am I dead-wrong about that? :doubt:

Your fine. You could add a on demand scanner like HitmanPro & Malwarebytes, but other then that,no worries. :thumb:

    Hi Boost,

Thanks for the vote of confidence - I have just added MBAM (free) for on-demand scanning.

seems like a neat little program but is a little old, but if it worked theno_O
    it should now:thumb:

I agree with Boost, you have a great AV and Firewall and it includes good URL scanning. Depending on your browser of choice you could add Keyscrambler personal free for good keylogger protection. Otherwise... :thumb:

MBAM is great for 2nd opinion. If you have a problem-free install, making a system image and keeping it in a safe place is a good idea. I use Macrium Reflect, but there are other good image programs. My favorite security program is Sandboxie, you could give that a look sometime.

A good place to read about free security programs is Gizmo's:http://www.techsupportalert.com/pc/security-tools.html

Major Geeks has good information about security, and has user ratings:

Back when I ran shadow defender,I used nothing more then hitmanpro and malwarebytes,no real time antivirus and I had no issues. You've got your bases covered :D .
