I remembered getting that when I was still using MBAM, I don't remembered if I quarantined it or ignore it. lol. Have you tried searching in google that registry key?
I think I'm using Windows Firewall Control at that time. But then I start to change my setup, :D

I googled for quite a while but found nothing relevant. That registry key is apparently to hide Control Panel icons. Thanks for posting.

Hi blahsmith, as the author of TinyWall, I can assure you it wasn't TinyWall.

I've try it quickly with no issue. I think it's a good product i can install on some pc in my family but i've got a regret : it takes 90Mo for two process. It's not the world's end but is it possible to reduce it ?

TinyWall does not actually use all that. The numbers you see in task manager include shared .Net stuff, the .Net runtime, the (mostly empty) managed heap and code that is shared between the two TinyWall processes (hence it is being double-counted). So the actual usage is more like 50-60MB (for both processes in total, based on actual audit), but even then, most of it is not actively used, thus it does not occupy your main RAM but is swapped out.

For more details on how this actually works and explanation, see the article about .Net memory consumption at http://www.itwriting.co.uk/dotnetmem.php.

I might be able to reduce memory consumption even further in the future (not in maintenance versions though), but no guarantees given here.

I wanted that to be true, however with new code weird things can and do happen sometimes. But this is an important piece of PC security to leave in the hands of a complete stranger. I have not dug to find your credentials or other software projects, but based on what I read here I assume your motives are such that can be trusted. TinyWall looks good and I hope you can continue to make it a top contender...

I did not see an option to show the incoming/outgoing traffic log, is there one?

Using this for a couple of days along Eset NOD32 v5 instead of SS.
I have to say it's very good!

Thank you, it's a great application. :thumb:

TinyWall is pretty much all over the internet now, including most major download sites and many more places. As a special note, Softoxi.com made an editorial review, where TinyWall received maximum score.

And they don't even know about the features that I'm working on :D

    Nice news for you :)

I'm using for 2 weeks now and found it really easy to use.
I've got two questions about the config please : in general panel can you be more explicite about "enable default windows rules" and "prompt for exception details".
Does the uac pop-up on startup is normal ?
    Thanks.

    Hi EboO,

Without using TinyWall (standard Windows Firewall) Windows has some default firewall exceptions to allow basic network communication. If this options is enabled, TinyWall will not touch these and leave them enabled. Currently this option's use is very limited and mainly usefull for diagnostics. Note, however, that this will be much more important and is very usefull in TinyWall 2.0 (in fact, I am debating to turn it on by default by then). But right now, chances are you can ignore it.

When disabled (default), when you whitelist a new application, TinyWall will unblock that application with the Outbound profile automatically, and you need to hand-edit the exception if you want different settings. If you enable this option, you will first be asked for all the settings of the exception and only then will TinyWall add it to the firewall.

Not quite normal. This happens when TinyWall detects a problem with its own installation, so it is trying to acquire admin rights to fix itself. This usually happens if someone or something disabled services or automatic startup entries that TinyWall needs. If it only happened once or so don't bother. If it happens regularly, you probably want to figure it out what is changing your system settings.

    You're welcome :D

Many thanks for all this explanations.

I've done a clean install and the problem is out. But is it normal that tinywall starts will low rights ? And after each reboot all rules are lost. I've tried on a vm, is it the reason ?

    Hi,
Yes, it is normal for TinyWall to start with lower rights. Losing the settings on each reboot is because of the virtual machine, it won't happen on a real computer. I already know about it an diagnosed it, unfortunately the only way to fix would cause everybody on a real computer (non-VM) to lose their settings on the next update. This issue will be corrected in the next major version, where keeping your old settings will not be possible anyways.

Ok, not a problem if it's just on vm :)

Have you got any date of release for v2 ? The beta phase will end with this version or not ?

If the user uninstalls TW, what is the state of the Win7 firewall? Is is set back to the setup it had before the installation of TW?

    Thanks.

Upon uninstall, the Win7 firewall is set back to its factory default settings (like after fresh installation of Windows).

A preview of v2 is planned in the second half of february. I'm already working on it, in fact, a lot of the fixes that will be in 1.0.3 this week are bugs that were discovered during development of v2.

(Though, it usually doesn't make sense to ask software developers for ETAs. They can't keep it anyway :) )

    Hello ultim,
I´m very interested using TinyWall, but I have two short questions.

1.) Elevate, is it only for uninstalling TinyWall or do I need it for other things?
2.) With installed TinyWall I cannot use Windows Homenetgroup and network of Windows 7 (doesn´t know whether this is the right translation, I hope you know what I mean). I can only avtivate it temporarly with my admin-password. But next time, I need my password once more.

TinyWall´s option "file and print sharing" doesn´t solve the problem...

    Many thanks for help!:)
