On ABP forum they recommended to use antisocial filters and easyprivacy to block web bugs and don't use ghostery. Is there somme feedbacks here ?
Are you referring to https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=47807#p47807 and https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=34207#p34207 ?
Hi all! I'm one of the developers of Ghostery and wanted to chime in on the discussion. Unlike ABP or NoScript, Ghostery is a discovery and learning tool: Ghostery will provide information on what the site is using and gathering on you and gives you options for blocking as needed. In terms of overlap between lists: Ghostery's list somewhat matches EasyPrivacy, but adds a lot more to it: widgets, plugins, social buttons, and many other services that Ghostery looks for, currently the database is over 700 entries. Lastly, unlike ABP or NoScript, Ghostery is available for the big 5 browsers: IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Opera. Cheers.
The discussion is available here : https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9273 I don't want to criticize ghostery, it's really good but i want to know how people who don't use are doing for more privacy.
Installed it on Aurora just to take a look around. Will remove it after I figure out a couple of things.
Yes, in Opera and Firefox. Also use spywareblaster with custom blocking.txt, many blocked hosts in the hosts, ad/crap sites blocked in peerblock, and of course ad block in both opera and firefox. IE 9 is using privacy lists.
Well, I took a look at Ghostery. It's nice but for those who already use ABP in Firefox and the right list, it just maybe superfluous. I have a feeling (without any proof) that makers of lists steal a peek at each other lists and so there'll be a convergence and significant overlap.
Cookie Whitelist, With Buttons is a nice addon. I use it along with Ghostery, NoScript and ABP. If you use Ghostery then you know it is amazing how much some of these websites are tracking you. I have seen a few that had nearly 20 tracking bugs.
I'm sorry I wasn't clear. It was a suggestion for those who do use ABP and Firefox. I don't use ABP with Firefox. I make my own lists for Privoxy which I can apply to any browser I want.
Thanks for the heads up, I'm using Ghostery too (again). I'm noticing a slight performance boost, it blocks many useless web elements.
I've disabled ghostery and i'm trying ABP with easylist, easyprivacy and antisocial and i found it as good as ghostery and a little faster.
Thanx for chiming in. I use ghostery, and one of the things that I love about it is that it actually lists in real time what trackers are data mining you, along with links to info about them.
This. I am amazed at how many trackers will show up for some sites and I like to see the list displayed, which is an option, when I browse around.
Has anyone tried the 64 bit Ghostery on IE 9? If so, what advantages has it over Fanboy's anti-tracking list?
... but with all these lists you're unable to use Facebook or Twitter, that's why Ghostery is the better option IMHO
No because buttons disappears. But i don't use it so it's not a problem for me. If you disable antisocial filter it will works fine, just use easyprivacy or ghostery
