Paragon has it's own locking technology, but the default locking technology it uses is VSS. The Paragon locking technology is not installed during default installation, one has to choose custom installation to instal the locking technology.

    Best regards,

    KOR!

You can install Paragon on the hard disk, and during installation pick the custom installation. Then pick their locking technology during installation. When you do the image, then you can chose their locking technology as an option instead of VSS.

    Best regards,

    KOR!

P.S. Failing so, the only other option is to format and have a clean install.

It may be so but this is strange, since Keriver doesn't use to have it's own snapshot mechanism. I suggest you confirm this with them. Otherwise you backup may seem ok, but may also contain inconsistencies hard to find.

Updated : Oops, sorry, I missed your previous post. If Keriver support says it is ok, then I guess it is.

BTW, Easeus TODo Backup is a free imaging tool and I think it has an alternative snapshot system. But its reputation on Wilders is not that good, so that's up to you to try it.

Yeah the Easeus snapshot system is nothing to write home about. Farstone use to have a snapshot technology in their product but have since removed it in the newer versions.

Hi again, just another idea : could you check the ntfs parameters of your system partition. Is it standard ? That is 1 cluster = 4 KB = 8 sectors. Use Easeus Free partition tool or an equivalent for that.

Actually that's just getting a parameter from your system. But I don't know how to get it without installing extra software. Sorry !

ah! found a workaround for the backup and restoration of images without the availability of vss........

if you've got a dysfunctional vss...don't worry....just boot from a Winpe bootable cd and create the backup.....restore in the same way.....most paid imaging software got that........the free ones like easeus and macrium let you build winpe cd.......for me keriver does the job.....it's got recovery console.....

    live happy :D

You can build recovery console for both EaseUS and Macruim Reflect with EasyBCD.

    Best regards,

yeah.....I'm just glad that I did not restore any images with any software normally before finding this workaround......it ought to have lead to corrupt files and errors........

    ah! didn't know that.......thx a lot buddy......

Is there any problem with having Paragon Free + Macrium Free installed on the same Windows 7 and creating images of C: using both Paragon + Macrium?

Just in case a Paragon restore fails I can try the other restore using Macrium.

    Any problems doing this?:cautious:

It is always good to have at least two imaging programs installed, and do image with both of them.

Agreed. I always use IFL, but do a second image using either DS, R-Drive Image, or ShadowProtect.

I have a question about Macrium.

I went to do a restore, booted the Linux Macrium Boot DVD and it says my SYSTEM partition is C: and that my C: is D:

And when I choose the image, it wants to restore the image to C:, but if I restore, it won't actually restore to the proper C: it will restore to the SYSTEM partion instead which Macrium thinks is C: Right?

What is the solution, if any exist? Seems Macrium boot DVD is confused?
