I hope they release one. Every other vendor out there has one it seems.

To me it's hard to even see one with a Complete Cloud Anti-Malware Database but only Joe would know if it is even possible or necessary when they Guarantee removal for paid users via support and or Remote session! Some good info here: Using antimalware tools within WSA

From a sales standpoint it makes sense. If I'm fixing a clients pc who uses let's say McAfee, and is heavily infected, and I break out a webroot rescue disk which gets the job done quickly, guess what vendor they will be going with?

+1 for webroot at that point.

Like I said I don't know if it possible so we will have to wait for a reply from Joe!

We use one in our support team if required but largely our goal is to clean infections within the OS without having to use a rescue disk (as the concept of booting off of a CD is quite complex for the average user).

I understand. But look at it from the perspective of users who don't currently have webroot installed. When their systems become infected the average user calls in a field tech who most likely will use a rescue disk of some sort... and if webroot had one for field techs to use and it got the job done, the user/client is very likely to then purchase webroot for themselves.

It's something worth considering I think.

All the user or field tech would have to do is download the Trial of WSA to clean up the system!

Sure, *If*you can boot into the OS and download a trial, great. the rescue disk wasn't really needed in the first place, was it?

I'm talking about heavily infected machines, where such a disk is needed though. I would like to see webroot offer one as I support them and see potential. When I deal with massive infections on clients pc I would prefer to use a webroot rescue and then follow up by installing a trial or full version on their pc once the OS is available.

If it was that infected I wouldn't trust the system myself I would do a OS reinstall!

That's certainly an option, usually as a last resort if rescue disks fail.

The only point I really want to make is this. there's an untapped market webroot is ignoring. Placing a rescue disk in the hands of field techs who show the customer on site, what product is getting the job done. If we use webroot, that very likely means new business. If I use Kaspersky rescue, that usually means the client will look at that brand over what they currently have installed.

The decision is theirs to make, if they release one. I'm just pointing out the reality of what goes down from my experience.

The untapped market you're speaking of is well covered by other software companies who market Acronis, Eases, Macrium Reflect (which I use) that will back up a system before it is infected and should it become infected beyond cleaning, then a simple restore of the previous image offers an absolute solution. If a user is concerned at all about his/her machine, it shouldn't reach the level of infection you mentioned. Just my nickels worth...

The market I'm talking about deals with clients (usually new ones) that unfortunately have not backed up anything and may have a heavily infected system which would require a rescue disk. Again, if webroot puts one out, that's one more tool we can use and one that possibly opens up new business for them.

Most companies realize this and have the ISO free to download, knowing full well that when techs rely on it, it means more business. A good tech promotes the successful tools they use, whether there are referral bonuses or not.

OK you said your piece but Joe already commented on it! And IMO I can't see this coming from a full Cloud Anti-Malware like WSA!

    "complex for the average user"

if that is too complex he better have a computer

Perhaps it's too complex because unlike the folk who spend time on forums such as this he has a full life, and earns lots of money :D

Agreed - I don't know why there is resistance to this. I work "in the field" and this is a recurring scenario, ie no backup, no image, no installed (or disabled) security software, system is unbootable or application installs are blocked, and finally the only option is a System Recovery with no built-in data backup. Bootable rescue disks are essential tools for techs.

The part that's often too complex for average users is entering the BIOS and changing the primary boot device from Hard Disk to CDROM. Some computers don't even put a prompt on the boot screen for entering the BIOS and the user has to figure out which key to press and when - not so easy for someone who has never done it before.

I could definitely see why this would make a great tool to have, if Webroot did offer one...

Just curious as to what being a "full cloud anti-malware" has to do with the possibility of a WSA bootable rescue disc? Rescue discs typically have network connectivity.

Usually you have to have the latest database update installed on a Rescue disk for it to be able to clean the system! And also if you couldn't get network connectivity what would you do? And I will say this for myself and nothing to do with Webroot or Prevx maybe they don't want to give away a free Anti-Malware tools for Techs to use to clean up systems but it's not my call, just be glad that WSA has a free trial as Prevx never did!

Rescue disk or not, Prevx was (and still is of course) a breath of fresh air for the PC security industry.
