Good Evening ! No doubt a super offer...but proceed at own risk. Until GFI irons out the many problems surrounding the release of version 5.0.1130 I'll keep Vipre parked in my app garage. Check out GFI'S Forum and come to your own conclusion. Sincerely...Securon

    I'm using 5.0.5074.
Sometimes the newer versions iron out the problems of the older ones.
(And no problem here logging into their forums.)

    Hello Securon.
Yes, it might make a difference.
And regarding checking GFI's forum and coming to our own conclusion, you surely must keep in mind that users visit forums in search of answers and assistance. Not a very high proportion of satisfied users start threads on forums just to say how great everything is. Point being, of course, that for any security application anywhere, even the very best ones, their forums are filled with people who are experiencing problems. ;)

I'm sorry but you sound a lot like their new "Customer Service" team, the forum was nearly clean when Sunbelt used to run the business, meaning there were way less problems than now.
Now at GFI everyone claims forum is just a "small portion" of the actual user base... and that's pretty much all they say... :thumbd:

Good offer but I already have a two year license and I am not sure that I would once again make the purchase. I agree with atomomega in that the support has been lacking ever since the GFI takeover, especially at their forum. I inquired about the progress of providing a password protection feature for Vipre and took a beating from their so called "Sunbelt Security MVP's", while pretty much receiving a nothing response from an actual GFI employee. Do not even think about bringing up a feature request or pointing out a flaw in the software on the forum anymore! GFI now has an ideas website for this and they want a vote before they will even consider making changes. Come to think of it, when is the last time Nick or another GFI employee visited and posted anything at Wilders?

Nick has not posted for a few months but he dropped in here a couple of days ago and keeps an eye on his pms. I had a very recent problem activating my licence which the official support took a long time even to acknowledge. A quick pm to Nick solved the problem immediately.

Overall both the Forum and official support, IME, seem to be a lot more patchy since GFI took over the helm, so it will be interesting to see whether they improve in the New Year.

However, we have to take into account that it is the Enterprise edition, not the Home products, which brings in the majority of the bucks so I assume that resources are targeted here. However, they are trying to push Vipre 5 here in the UK as their boxed product is available alongside the likes of WSA, Norton and Kaspersky in PC World, a big computer hardware/software chain.

Well, atomomega, despite the crappy remark (which I tried to play off in a light-hearted manner), let me say that the frustration, or anger, or whatever it is you're feeling, could certainly be better placed and directed than aimed at me.

I'm a VIPRE user, I've had my share of complaints and difficulties with this product, and I've been able to work through them each and every time, between their forum, their email support, and this forum. If they were a shakey company with a lousy product, I wouldn't have their software anywhere near my machines, nor would I attempt any "Customer Service team" behavior such as you have suggested.

So let me try to assist you, atomomega.

Why don't you take your complaints to the top? Send the CEO some email.
    His name is Walter Scott.
He was here a little over 2 months ago.
    He had this to say...
Sounds like an open invitation to me. ;)
If I had anything I needed to get off my chest, I'd direct my efforts at the guy who is in charge and was here asking for input.

    HTH

I never intended to aim a complain at you man. :) Seriously. Just that (in a polite yet ironic manner) I just wanted to make a reference as to what VIPRE's support has become since GFI took over. As you will see in the link below, that was the same answer I received from a GFI employee, instead of getting replied about my issue.
I did try to solve my problem, and while reading several threads at the Support forum I started to feel unsure about it being resolved.
HERE you can see that I actually posted about my problem. As you can see I posted on Dec 1st and got a reply from a GFI employee until the 12th... I'm not sure if you were a VIPRE user before GFI's Acquisition but remember when Alex Eckelberry and his great team used to run the business? Nick Hallin or Alex himself would have jumped in right away.
To be honest I didn't even want to try to fix it cause I've no time to deal with e-mail support and calling to the phone number whould have resulted in a ticket being created fated to be abandoned. That's the way I feel, and the way I see it. I'm not the only one as you can see here and there (at GFI Support Forum).
Heck, I even got e-mailed by VIPRE's Product Manager and he did reply once but never heard from him ever again.
Like you, I'm a happy VIPRE 4 user. I love the product. I still use it.
I just don't like VIPRE 5 cause it's quite problematic, and trying to get support to get things fixed is more like a wish more than an option.
Again, it's nothing against you and if my post seems to offend you in any way, I do apologize, it was never mi intention. ;)

@ atomomega , Well, I must not be that offended if I still posted back trying to offer some help.

I don't know what to tell you, man.
I see your point, and I understand frustration. But being totally honest, your forum contact with them seems to be sprinkled with some accusatory language, and my experience with any kind of tech support over the years has been, I get more assistance when I am respectful.

And I don't actually think that what I posted here in response to Securon was the same thing GFI support was saying to you... but I doubt that any of it is worth rehashing at this point.

To answer your question, I have been using VIPRE for about 10 months, and since GFI acquired Sunbelt in the middle of July 2011, I guess my experiences with them have been split about 50/50 between the old ownership and the new.

Bottom line, I'm sorry your experiences haven't been better, atomomega. :)

I've had Vipre on two slow notebooks for more than six months, and had no problems except that on one machine with XP Pro, the computer freezes for 3-4 minutes at start up when MBAM's active protection is enabled. I don't usually keep MBAM with its active protection enabled, therefore I'm not worried, it is well known that in some machines MBAM doesn't play well with a classic AV.

Vipre has given me no problems compared to my other AV (see signature), but I really wish to see a test by AV Comparatives in order to renew my license.

    Hi Osaban,
I have been genuinely impressed with VIPRE's performance in the MRG Flash Tests, as I noted here.

VIPRE has done better than most of the other tested apps, including big-name vendors. The only apps to outperform VIPRE in the MRG Tests are MBAM, Emsisoft, DefenseWall and Zemana.

VIPRE has done better than Kaspersky, Avira, AVG, avast, BitDefender, Norton, Panda, Prevx/Webroot and others.

I see that GFI is now displaying those results (VIPRE vs. Competition) on its website...

    Hello Page,
I couldn't agree more, it is because of the MRG Flash Tests that I bought the 2 licenses in the first place. It is however my own belief that an AV should be tested comprehensively over a wide spectrum of scenarios to be able to draw some kind of conclusions over its overall performance. Avira hasn't excelled lately in any tests, but always manages to score respectable results just about anywhere.

When somebody says MBAM can't be tested by AV Comparatives on the ground of it not being a 'real' AV, I can understand it, as it doesn't cover the whole spectrum of malware. Vipre is not in the same category as MBAM, thefore I'm still waiting (and I'm not the only one) for a test by AV Comparatives.
