If you haven't already received the direct .dll file, for those in North America like cdrat and prius04, you can also open a support ticket with Customer Care to receive an installation package with the .dll fix included.

Thanks. I opened a support ticket. Just on a whim, would enabling "pre-release updates" resolve the issue?

So..I open a support ticket with Customer Care to get the latest DLL (or full download). Just received notice of new NOD32 from CS. I eagerly download the file and install it (after uninstalling the old one) and what do a find out? They send me an old version! Version 5.0.94.0! This version crashes the computer when an USB HDD is pluged in. What a joke! This is a known problem with .94.

How could CS be so clueless? Where is the fixed DLL file as promised? I don't want ver 94, just a fixed 95.

    I give up....Back to (gasp!) Norton:mad: .

I guess this is the exception to the rule that "no news is good news". I opened a support ticket about a week ago and have heard **nothing**. However, if all they intend to do is direct me to v5.0.94.0, then I'm probably better off with no response.

    The continuing saga....

I replied to eset's email and told them my thoughts (politely!) and about 2 hours later I get another email with a link to the DLL file. I have installed the file and I will see what happens....Stay tuned!

    Really continuing.........

I just opened another support ticket since I never received a response to the first one. Hopefully, they'll come up with a solution sometime soon; it's only been 3+ months since this issue was reported.

So, the saga continues.....but it won't be much longer in my case since my licenses expire in March. There are plenty of free AV products available and I'll switch to one of them. At that point, this saga will come to an abrupt end. If I'm not going to get support when I experience an issue on a product I *pay* to renew, I might as well just use another product that is free of charge.

I just received (more likely than not) the same email and replaced the old DLL file with the new one, as per instructions. I sincerely hope the new file provides a resolution to the issue for everyone experiencing this anomaly.

How did you file your support ticket? The first time, I filled out the web form and submitted it. I heard nothing and did not even receive an acknowledgment.

The second time, I submitted a support request **directly through the software**. Simply open the NOD32 window, click "Help and support" on the left side of the screen, and then under "Customer Care", click "Customer Care support request (recommended)", and fill out the popup box. When I followed that procedure, I received an email acknowledgment with a case number in a very short period of time and the DLL from support the next day. That web form didn't work at all for me.

The saga is nearing the end....

Ok...Since I installed the new DLL on 12/29, there have been no User rules file messages. Seems like that did the trick.

There are still other minor problems - like Adobe Reader 8 and Acrobat 8 don't play well with NOD32. Version X (10) of reader seems to be ok.

Hope everyone had a happy and safe new year!

None to report here. I've done several images (on both machines) and I have yet to see the message pop up. There's nothing in the event log either. Hopefully, this is the end of that.

    Ditto! :)

Did you at least receive an email acknowledging your support request? The actual answer from support might take a bit longer but you should receive an email acknowledgment within a short period of time (like within a day).

If you don't receive an email with a case number today, I'd recommend submitting another support request **through the software**. Make sure, though, that you complete the form properly; particularly that you have included a valid email address.

I'm using ESS 5.0.95.0 on Windows XP Professional.

The ESS 5.0.95.0 version solved the problem of frozen the PC whenever I tried to connect an USB external drive while Windows was on, but what happens now is that I can connect that external USB drive but whenever I do that I got the "The user rules file contain invalid data" message.

I've no problem in using that USB external drive but need to find an explanation and solution to that mysterious and annoying message.

I went to hell and back trying to maintain ESET 5.0.95.0 on my xp sp3 config. My pc would most often freeze whenever I plugged in a USB drive. I thought it was my USB drive and spent some time going through diagnostics, but it passed all. Then I noticed I was getting this "user rules file contains invalid data" whenever I plugged the usb in. I tried 5.0.93 and the same thing occured. I tried the dll fix on both versions, and the freeze continued to occur. At that point I had enough. Went back to 4.2.71.2 and it's running beautifully. Not sure what mumbo jumbo ESET are pushing into this latest release. Atleast now I dont get any freeze. Inclusive to this I get no popup telling me if i want to scan my usb each time i plug it in. In addition, I don't have to go through this cumbersome new web install. I win 3 ways.

This issue is still open even with me (XP SP3) as well. Red box typically appears (randomly) when you insert USB media or CDs (data/audio).
Also the yellow box 'requires your attention' still randomly appears (with no issue) although all tick boxes in 'gamer mode' have been deactivated.
