Thank's for that info. File based restores. Ghost 2003 does that. Also the earlier Acronis TI but I think they now do sector based restores. The TeraByte apps do sector based restores.

 

Out of interest I checked a WinXP partition with Perfect Disk and recorded the number of Rarely, Occasionally, Recently and Total fragmented files. The partition was then imaged and restored with Active@ Disk Image. As zfactor reported, the data was now compressed to the start of the partition (Perfect Disk graphic) but a defragmentation hadn't been performed as the number of fragmented files was exactly the same as I recorded previously.

every image software respect the partition bitmap,they don't need defrag/consolidate

I don't use Active@, but I enjoy following this thread...it seems like there is a lot of confusion with this company, their released versions, and day one bugs. Is this normal?

 

When I launch the installer it says 5.1.4, and I got it from Lsoft.net (secure) client area.

 

hmm my current installer says 5.1.3 when i open the program on top it shows 5.1.3 but in windows add remove programs it shows 5.1.4

Well. So far tried all the trial versions of active disk image. I am never able to get backup done in windows. Always the same error. The error is :No snapshot found in the set". Even though I am having Acronis, Macrium, Shadowprotect, O&O diskimage all able to backcup in windows and coexisting nicely. Any help is welcome.

 

if you're using 4 other imagers then you dont really need active@ do you? and like others have pointed out before, shadowprotect and active@ dont work well together on the same system, so unless your prepared to uninstall some of the other 4 imagers then no one will be able to help you

around 30% faster for me but i am using SSD's as destination and source.
