    Hi everyone,

I was given a laptop this morning and I suspect it's infected with MBR or boot sector virus and other virus and malware.

What's a really good and reliable boot CD program I can use to check it and try to clean it?

    Thanks.

I would use Hitman Pro - to scan and remove this malware.

W7 doesn't even load, it freezes before loading, so how can I run Hitman PRO?

Thanks, I am downloading the kavrescue10.iso as we speak.

Is it up to date? does it check for boot sector virus and malware etc?

The Dr.Web Live CD is at or near up-to-date at the time of download.

I have heard that the BitDefender Rescue CD is also good, but it does need updating.

I have found the Avira Rescue System CD to have the fastest scan time.

The Dr.Web Live CD may have a significantly slower scan time, but I have been told that it is good at cleaning Malware.

    Thanks :thumb:

So out of the 3, Kaspersky, Avira and Dr Web, if you could only choose one, which one would you choose to use?

I think it would be safer to run more than one, as a second opinion. Don't forget MBAM, once the first clean up is done.

Nothing detects everything. Use everything you can to fix the problem.

Also check for disk errors, sometimes a damaged sector(s) can be the cause for that problem. Hirens Boot CD have some tools that can check and repair (if possible) the damaged sectors.

Another (and faster) possibility is to boot from a W7 DVD, access "System Recovery Options" and choose to restore to a previous point.

    Good luck:thumb:
