Restore from MBR

Hi

I know of Keriver and Rollback RX, which allow you to restore from the MBR (I know they are completely different types of software).

What other backup restore solutions are available with this feature?

The Keriver MBR is a bit ugly

As far as I know, most disk-imaging programs automatically backup the MBR and will allow you to restore the MBR if you wish to do that, however Rollback Rx's snapshots neither backs up or restores the MBR! Btw, as an FYI there also are specialized freeware programs just for that purpose.

I worded the question badly, my question was supposed to be;

What backup/recovery programmes are available which have a recovery console loaded into the MBR so that you don't have to use a DVD/USB Key to boot into the recovery environment. I know of Rollback RX and Keriver, any others I should look at?

Besides those you mentioned (and the RB clones) the only other one I can think of is Acronis True Image.

Not true!

One can have a "Recovery Console" of any imaging programs, which has ISOs of Linux, BartPE and WinPE. This can be done with EasyBCD.

Only one imaging program which doesn't have this is DS (Drive Snapshot).

 

KOR, I don't believe that is responsive to Adam's question. As I understand his question he was asking about other programs that come equiped with an MBR-based recovery console, not how to incorporate one!

Simply, you can use EasyBCD to add a boot menu.

Or you can use a modified MBR file and write to MBR

 

EasyBCD. Easiest MBR loader. I've used it a bunch of times recently to save my butt.

Also, you can have a boot menu "Recovery Console" for your BartPE and WinPE disks/ISOs with EasyBCD, such as any of your imaging programs like IFW and Macrium Reflect Free.

acronis true image has this feature and you dont need to mess round with any extra software. just select the image you want to restore and it will automatically bootup into acronis live mode and restore it from there. no boot cd or mbr modifications needed.

i used this feature successfully to restore my own personal system many times before i moved over to active@ disk image
