I had a client get hit by a drive by "fake infection" trojan. Eset didn't detect anything either (v 4.2.71.2) and after I managed to get it cleaned off through a few scans of Malwarebytes, TdssKIller, and some tweaking via hijackthis, all seemed to be working again.

I tried to load up Eset and noticed that half the modules were not loaded and nothing I did would get them to load correctly. I figured I'd reinstall, so I uninstalled, rebooted, and downloaded v5.

Tried using the Live Installer and the Offline installer. Both failed stating that a reboot had not been completed since a previous uninstall. Even after multiple reboots.

Retried using v4 again. Same issue.
I followed the instructions for manually uninstalling and even used the Eset uninstaller, all of which completed successfully.

But anytime I try to install NOD, it fails every time.

Nothing else fails. I've updated Adobe reader, flash, java, spywareblaster, malwarebytes, etc... with success every time.

    Running Windows 7 64-Bit SP1.

    Thoughts?

I'm getting the same message. I reboot the computer, attempt to reinstall NOD 32 version 4, and the same thing happens. Anyone have a solution?

I guess it could be due to the Base Filtering Engine service removed by the malware. Could you check if it's installed and running? Anyways, even in that case the installer should end up with an error (1603 I guess). You can run "sc query bfe" to find out the status of the service quickly.

Checked Services.MSC, didn't see anything called Base Filtering Service.

Rand "SC QUERY BFE" via cmd, returned results:

Failed 1060: Specified services does not exist as a service.

Yeah, if BFE is missing you can try the KB article below. :)

BFE Fix ESET Knowledge Base Article

I'm interested in the results, if you would be so kind to share them once you've tried the proposed solution. :thumb:

This shouldn't be the consequence of the missing BFE. In case of a problem with BFE, installation would end up with and error and roll back.
Before starting installation, make sure that there's no HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ESET\ESET Security key in the registry.

    Sweet.

I tried deleting the registry keys and then even deleted all the files recommended in the Manual Uninstall instructions, and it failed again.

I followed the instructions in the KB Link for reinstalling the BFE and the install worked just fine. Here is the link posted above.

Thanks guys for your help :)
