Hi,system is ibm thinkpad(1.4ghz,windows xp home.)Got the latest 4.5 update, installed ok but when try to manually update ,laptop crashes and takes ages to shutdown.Have read previous topic and disabled "TeaTimer" but to no avail.Am also using ZoneAlarm 10.1,Spybot S&D 1.6.2,and AVG 2011).

crashes how, is there an error message? Any more clues in event viewer logs? Is SB allowed fully in ZA and AVG?

Sorry,no error message, screen freezes( 10 mins and longer),attempts to "end process" nothing happens(despite repeated tries) ctrl+alt+del works on "shutdown pc" after 2nd or 3rd go.Full permission in ZA (out/in bound) and nothing in avg event logs.
    Where else do I look?

look in windows event view logs. Did you try to reinstall SB, then can you disable all 3 and see if it crashes still. If it doesn't re enable them one by one
