I'm trying out Axcrypt. Great, simple tool. If you don't want to go through the trouble of mounting/unmounting a drive, and don't really need that level of protection (simple password protection will do), then this is an ideal tool for you. I have some use for both it & TrueCrypt. Heck, I use LockNote too for some things. I love them all.

Removed WinPatrol. I feel Scotty is getting a little long in the tooth now, though I'll take a look at it again when a new version is released.

For now, I'm more than happy with Sandboxie and MBAM PRO. I'd even go as far as saying that I think I may have found my dream combination. Light, effective and both lifetime licenses.

Dropped these (for now), while I try Bitdefender Total Security 2012
    Comodo ISP
    Emsisoft Antimalware
    Defensewall

Not that bothered about the top two above. All great apps. The one thing I'm really not happy with is having to drop Defensewall. It's not compatible with Bitdefender Total Security 2012. Real bummer...

But, I am in a testing phase. So Bitdefender might go and I'll be able to go back to DW. We'll see.

A good friend is perpetually having trouble with his computer and getting it infected. He's always reformatting the thing. I schooled him on imaging and showed him ShadowProtect, and of course he loved the idea. Since I'll probably never actually have to use it (knock on wood), and I know he will, I sold him mine for a slight discount. And now I'm using Macrium Reflect Free.

I'm looking at the paid versions, namely "Standard". I notice one of the features is "Password protection and encryption". Does this mean it's able to backup & restore password protected and/or encrypted files/folders, and that the free version is not? Or that you can password protect & encrypt the image? Both?

Also "Recovery from Windows boot menu". This seems to be a very handy feature. Has anybody actually used it and can testify to how well it works? Would this method work any better/worse? I assume what it does is when you hit F12 during boot up (XP), it puts an option there on the list along with other things like "boot from CD"... something like "boot from Macrium Reflect image"?

I'm going to post this in the appropriate forum too, but figured someone may be able to help me here while I posted this setup change.

Recovery from Windows boot menu is all I use. I don't even burn a recovery disc anymore. I don't unistall software I just restore image. You'll never know how you got along without it.
