any way to disable the ghost alerts yet?

three times today I have had the "eset requires your attention" pop up, when you open gui all is fine. windows 7 64 bit all up to date. As is eset.

The easiest way, enabling gaming mode permanently?

 

Gaming mode is broken so who would want to enable it as it thinks any full screen App is a game!

 

its not broken thats how its meant to work. the idea of gamer mode suppresses notifications when full screen applications are running to avoid ruining the experience. who wants a av update complete prompt in the middle of a presentation or film?

 

It is not broken, according to documentation that feature is useful if you dont want notifications when you are showing a presentation.

 

The issue is not whether alerts should or should not be suppressed when in full screen mode. The issue is about the false alert popup that ESS needs your attention, when, in fact, it does not. This has been an ongoing problem since version 4 on Win7 64bit. I see it nearly every time I open ESS from the taskbar. As the home screen opens to show that all systems are green, a popup appears saying that ESS needs my attention. The popup fades and there is no change in the protection status. I've learned to ignore the popup, but learning to ignore a warning is never a good thing.

 

Ah! is this only on windows 7 64 bit? that's what I have.

 

I can only speak for my experience. I did not see the issue before win7 64 bit. I have 2 other boxes with win7 64bit and ESS, but don't use those enough to say whether they, too, show the same behavior. As it is, I only see the popup whenever I oppen ESS from the taskbar. I haven't tried opening it another way, but I expect to see it when opening from the taskbar, so I'm not surprised when it pops up. Clearly a bug, but it's not very serious. It doesn't affect the protection status.

 

I have a similar problem, though not exactly the same. I am also on win 7 64-bit. Ever since I have upgraded to ESET SS5, it has been a nag-fest. Any action I perform on the laptop, like opening a new window or switching to a new window or coming out of full-screen mode causes the ESET needs your attention to pop-up. This started after I rolled back some windows updates because they were breaking my system. I am basically waiting for Windows support to resolve the incompatibility so that I can re-install the updates, but till that time I want the nag-fest subdued.

Are there any risks to using gamer mode, like more relaxed firewall rules or something?... because I do not want to change to gamer-mode and compromise my security.

 

I see this problem on both Win7-64 systems where I have ESS5 installed. BUT, one of my customers running ESS5 on XP Pro 32bit also receives the ghost alerts, so I hope you don't limit testing to 64-bit or Aero.

Happens here too on Win 7 64 Ultimate with NOD32 v5.0.94.0. The only adjustments I have made to the AV is disable notifications about pending system updates and disintegrate it from desktop email apps.

 

I don't want to disable the alerts because occasionally they have reminded me that a Microsoft update has not been installed yet. But...much like the story of the little boy who cried "wolf!" too often, I don't want to see frequent alerts when there are no issues. I don't want to ignore an issue that really DOES need my attention.

I just sent in a support request along with a screen shot showing no issues despite the popup immediately before I took the screen shot. Perhaps there will be enough info to track down something that happens intermittently.

 

i saw this on a few systems and they seem to have stopped at least for the last week i have yet to see these, not sure but have they maybe updated something? i have not seen one after seeing them almost daily since

Perform the suggested actions, if none resolve the issue, contact ESET Customer Care.

 

I did not see these until I upgraded to ver5. Now I gget them 2-3 times daily. Contacted ESET support and the requested a copy of a SysInspector report which I provided. Since they saw nothing "strange". They suggested completely turning off notifications. They play dumb as though this is something they have not seen before. I need the "real" notifications in case there is truly a problem. I hope they fix this soon.

 

I get it from time to time because it doesn't like that I've disabled Anti-Spam (no need for it). I believe that is why anyway, I could be wrong. Agreed, it's annoying.
