Dang, then the behavior is inconsistent, probably due to difference in hardware as well the XP SP3. Drivers for different systems might be an issue, but who can be sure. You can't use different drivers than the ones designed for your hardware, at least not without having even larger issues.

    Hi All,
Same problem here with NOD32 v5 and an XP box, locks up rock-solid every time as soon as I plug-in an external drive, even with the new v5 scan 'now or later' feature turned off. Unplugging the drive after it locks up doesn't help either, a hard reset is the only way out. Going back to v4 is my solution for the time being.

Also have an identical box running W7 without any problems. My lap-top with XP and v5 works fine. As one of the earlier posters mentioned, it appears to be only with certain hardware and only on those running XP (at least in my case).

I'll keep watching this thread, maybe someone from Eset will let us know when they finally identify a solution. I've been an Eset user for 6 or 7 years and still like their AV better than at least a half dozen others that I've tried.

Problem is that when I started this thread back in September at no time was I using an external USB drive when the lock up occurred.

I had to revert a customer this last week - lots of external USB drives on his machines and XP SP3 was the OS.
