When is someone decent, like ESET, going to make a -decent- -portable- antivirus? One that can be run either in windows, or in a recovery/PE environment.
A proper means of removing viruses from a system in a Repair Shop environment.
Sure, I can use ECLS, and a batch script. or a bootable ESET Rescue environment - but none of it is truly and dynamically portable.

I guess my question falls down to - is this ever planned by ESET? and if not, can someone write a nice GUI which controls ECLS.exe?

I think the reason for this kind of solution not existing is that for an AV product to work properly, it needs to load some drivers at windows startup. If it's a portable app this is somewhat hard.. :)

That's just what I think though

well actually, the ecls.exe works just fine if you pop in some arguments. works perfectly and portably, you just need to copy the definitions and a few dlls as well as the exe.
The problem is, this is a command-line tool, and it's not as fast and easy to use as one with a gui.
What I'd love to see is someone write a gui for it. something that just runs the exe inside itself, has checkboxes for different arguments, and the ability to specify where to scan. Another nice feature would be to show the results in the gui, and count how many infections are present.
I've thought about writing this myself, but I simply don't have the time.
The other benefit to this, is that it would be perfectly legal, as it would simply be a hook program - so none of eset's files would be distributed. you'd have to own a license to properly attain and use these files.
