Un-installed Avira 2012 IS because of one small detail. The little box in the desktop tray would keep flickering once in awhile which eventually got on my nerves.

Apart from that there wasn't anything noticeably wrong with the program. I thought the integrated HIPS was fairly good at catching any new programs that were attempting to connect to the internet and resource usage was moderately good.

Web browsing speed was about the same as if I had no AV on.

Has anyone mentioned anything about a lot of the program stating its Not Responding when you first double click on it and it opens?

Firefox has been doing that as well. I just did an uninstall re-install earlier today, will keep an eye on it.

    P.S. To anyone.

What are the "recommended" settings for Avira?

    Thanks in advance.

I don't understand why it's so damn hard for them to make a web protection module that does not screw up your download speed statistics, like every single other major antivirus software has.
I don't care if the actual speed is the same, it's ANNOYING. Fix it.

And making the Web protection skip all files in the options doesn't seem to work either. It's ridiculous having to resort to that in the first place.

It does slow down a lot...for those for whom its not slowing down they will have super net speeds but i have a 1 mbps plan and the slowdown is noticable for me..sumtimes it will just start scanning images b4 they are loaded in the browser..and sumtimes other file types...its really annoying

My connection speed is very fast, and Avira12's webguard hasn't affected my browsing at all. It hasn't been so with Avira10 though, I had to turn it off most of the time. I think that Avira has a tendency (more so than other AVs) to generate conflicts with other applications, in my case I had to uninstall Sandboxie. Trial periods are meant to check functionality, environmental variables, and if Avira doesn't fit the bill, one should test something else. I agree though there are too many people complaining, and the issue should be dealt by Avira.

I dont use sandboxie and m talking of the free version ... i would like the webguard to work like avast...i have almost 2 years license for internet security but m not using because the webguard slows things down and firewall also is chatty even for normal programs

having won the license in sweepstakes........i tried out Avira 2012 IS and in my opinion it does make your pc sluggish and some programs do load slower the before sometimes.....especially if you have multiple user a/c and one of them is till logged-on....

Nope, the web protection won't slow down your browsing speed.
