Favorites AV?

Hi,

I want to know which are your favorite 4 AntiVirus (with the version), by order of preference? And if you want, why...

- Kaspersky Anti-virus - Because of very good opinions on this forum I tried it and I just liked it. It has won lot of tests, is light, fast, has often updates ...
- F-secure Anti-virus - Because I have free licence of it for 2 years. It is strong, uses KAV engine, has often updates ...
- Norman Virus Control - Very good detection, email scanning, fast, light ...
- BitDefender Standard - same as NORMAN

Norton (because it's on another computer & already paid for)
eXtendia AVK (a low price, two engines, and Kobra likes it)
maybe Panda? (I like AVs that detect stuff besides virus)

 

AVK 12 Pro (KAV/RAV): on acces, until now never missed one, hourly checks updates.
Bitdefender free 7.1: on demand, didnt find anything so far
Panda Platinum: included in Sys.Mech.Pro, i dont use it at the moment
Trend PCCillin: came with my Asus mobo, dont use it
Avert Stinger: on a usb-stick

AVK-Dual scan engines...KAV and RAV
NOD32-Light on resourse
Forgot Command and AntiVir-Both light on resorces and update often

 

NOD32 -- as scanner monitor (active)
KAV 5 -- ready to fight (on demand)
eXtendia AVK -- looks amazing, two top engines ~ very low price.
McAfee -- v.7

F-Secure Client Security: Using it right now. Very strong virus detection rate. Trojan detection rate is also very strong. In my experience, it has found several trojans not detected by Mcafee and Norton. For example, TrojanClicker.Win32.VB.

Symantec AntiVirus Corp: Very good AV with very light resource usage.

 

1) Dr Web 4.31b -- fast & VERY effective; has light footprint; updates fast & often

2) F-Prot -- simply THE best Tech Support, period! But who needs them? FP always works grrrreat!

3) AntiVir-PE 6.25.00.03 -- It's a good freebie. Aggressively maintained. Good support forum. Frequent updates. Also, AVPE's logo {a guy with an umbrella} looks a bit like my Uncle Fred, who helped me do my Trig homework {back in the days when the earth was still cooling}.

 

avast! 4 Pro - very fast and small updates,lots of settings,scan speed/low resource usage,very good detection rate,great support
Pc-cillin 2004 - firewall,simple and effective interface,good detection rate,fast on-demand scanner
Kaspersky - regular updates,very simple interface,nice trey icon ,good detection rate

 

Kaspersky Workstation - I use it, no conflicts, has served me well

NOD32 - same as KAV, lighter footprint, this is my demand/backup scanner on a couple of machines

I'd check out the other KAV engine derived scanners if I was looking further, but I'm not for now - KAV & NOD32 - either one is absolutely fine and I'm content staying in the fold.

RAV is cool but it is bad that you can't use or download it anymore.

 

My list:

1. NOD32 (light on resources, good heuristics)
2. eXtendia AVK Pro (double engine: KAV+RAV - need I say more? )
3. Dr Web (small, fast, good heuristics, and frequent updates - catches lots of trojans)
4. H+BEDV AntiVir Personal Edition (free, relatively big definitions base, not too bad heuristics)

 

Kobra disappears and another one appears....LOL. anyway Kloshar its very sad that way. when i was using RAV i couldn't run scandisk untill i disabled virus protection, that annoyed me. but thats history now, i moved on.

eXtendia AVK Pro - Because has the KAV engine, b/c paid for, running now.

KAV - Because has the KAV engine.

NOD32 - Never done me wrong I just like the more intense resident of KAV engine.

Trend Micro's Latest - Usually a nice protector

 

Done a fair bit of testing on a midspeed laptop and souped up desktop (3.6GHZ). Read reviews, perused forums and finally at this list:

Chose the first 3 not only for high viral detection, but for worms, trojans, dialers and other exploits. Maybe when TDS4 comes out I might consider adding another layer of security, but at the moment, I don't think it's necessary.

NOD would be on the list if they matched the competition in terms of featureset and better non-viral performance. New beta coming out soon might help, who knows. If so, they might be back on the list.

 

1. NOD32 - it has the lowest resource usage, and, according to the studies I have seen, is perfectly good for home usage, even if it can't handle all the stuff Kaspersky can.

2. Dr. Web. Again, it doesn't strain my system that much, which is a good thing when you don't have much RAM. It seems to have beef with ZoneAlarm, though. (Currently using trial version of this.)

3. F-Prot DOS. It's free and has only on-demand scanning, but it's a very good backup AV.

Can't think of a 4th one that a) I have tried out and b) is genuinely good.

I changed from KAV to NOD32 about 3 years ago because of less problems with NOD. In that time period NOD hasn't let me down and I will continue to use it.

NOD32 - In my opinion the best all round, suits my needs perfectly.

KAV - Detection of malware excluding viruses is excellent, does detect a lot of crap though, FP's and bogs down the system.

F-Secure - Very good detection, I liked it but had a few issues with it in the past crashing my machines though.

NAV - Same as KAV, with fewer FP's. Also very easy to use.
