We have implemented this but it is only currently available for scheduled scans and is disabled by default. To enable it, open VIPRE. Go to Manage > View Schedules > select a scheduled scan and click Edit. Here you can enable the "Use Fast Second Scan" option for that scheduled scan.

does this implementation work similar to the way the existing fingerprinting mechanism works in the 4.x product? (expiring the cache after updates) or does it use some sort of other cache aging algorithm to ensure that files eventually get rescanned?

    thanks!

The caching you're referring to that 4.0 uses is for Active Protection. 5.0 still uses this for AP but we also have a new caching for scans. Currently the cache does not expire for scans which is why the option is only available for scheduled scans and is disabled by default. We plan to implement a method that will cause this scan type to gradually rescan all items over a period of time but this is not included in this release.

i remembered that you had posted about the caching mechanism, but forgot it applied to AP only in 4.x. right on. thanks for the info.

Does this version includes all the features of the v5 ?
Scan are faster, but no return of the parameters of active protection ?
Will the antivirus version include a webshield ?

    Thanks.

The new tray icon looks much cleaner but, I agree with Blackcat about using the snake icon instead. I think it should match the desktop icon, the start menu icon, and the icon in add/remove programs, IMHO.

Today I could not connect to the internet unless I disabled the Firewall and soon after the whole program froze. Snapshot now gone.

So not quite ready for prime time on my machine yet.

Good Morning ! Hi Ripcord...A Full System Scan on my system used to clock in at over two hours...lately during the last week or so it's been reduced to an hour and a half...that is an improvement, hopefully this will continue to improve with the release of Vipre 5. A quick scan only takes three to four minutes. Sincerely...Securon

I will agree w/ you on long scan times in version 4. I thought they would reduce scan time by more than half in this version. Quick scans have never been a problem for me about 4 mins or so. Vipre always seems a work in process to me.

I currently don't have a spare machine to test it on, so I'll have to wait for the official release to hit my production machines.
The tray icon looks so-so, as said before the snake would look cool, AP monitors should come back, imo.
@NickHSunbelt: Will the HIPS stay? Will Cloudmark filtering work on all e-mail accounts? Is there any change regarding web filter? It would be nice to have a blocking page similar to that of ClearCloud.

    HIPS is staying.

I believe anti-spam should work for any email accounts that our previous Email Protection would work for but I'm truthfully not certain on this as I haven't done any of the testing with anti-spam. This feature will not be functioning until our Beta 2 release.

There are a few minor bug fixes included for Web Filtering but no major changes. I have actually personally put in a feature request to change the Web Filtering block page to be more similar to the ClearCloud page and this is being considered for future releases.

Considering most free AVs now include a web filter (avg, avast, panda cloud, avira, etc..), I think GFI should move that feature from the suite to the regular AV.

I am already aware there is no more upgrade pricing on Vipre, but Will version 5 be a free upgrade to those holding valid Vipre 4 licenses? I know this used to be the case in the past with new versions but with the new policies now I am curious.

    Thanks.....

Thanks a lot for the reply!
Good question! My license expires on July 2012, so, being able to upgrade for free to V5 is a must I'd say.

There are no plans to change this policy. All software updates are free for customers with a valid subscription.

Would have been nice to see the return of the system monitors in Active Protection. :( I guess if your looking for a very basic AV this is it.
