Hey Champ, I did mean the call/sms block. It struck me as firewall-ish in the way it popped up and asked me to allow/deny :) I'm interested in trying Zoner again. Dr. Web started freezing up on me AND my wife's Galaxy S. We're both running the Bitdefender beta now, but I'm open to trying a few more vendors.

Got you cp4eva ... dr web is blazing on high end phones but it was 1000 times slower on my previous droid ... i had tried bitdefender but didnt like it dnt rem why...i was a lookout fan but i think zoner is the only free av now to have so many features

Zoner is on my phone right now, and I really like it. It doesn't eat the battery up and has given me no problems whatsoever.

What I have opted for instead of an AV is the program systempanel. Free version shows you what is running etc., but paid version has real time monitoring which you can switch on and after a 24 hour period it will show you what was using the battery and by how much. When monitoring is activated, there is no system drag or battery drain. Good tool to use.

I would imagine a malicious app would be trying to run in the background, that's where this program could come in handy to shut it down and uninstall.

Regarding the Bitdefender Android beta, have they made it an option to show an icon in the notification area? Last time I tried it this couldn't be done and I prefer to have a "visual" that the AV is running. I also found that BD cloud scans would sometime fail because they are completely dependent on the network connection, which can be unreliable at times. How's that working for you?

No; the icon is still only seen when scanning a download for example. So not visual all the time.

Same here. A few of my scans have failed because the scanner could not reach the Server. However, I am still running it on my mobile.

It's a surprise to see that many vendors developing AM apps for android devices... I personally don't see the point at this early stage.

It actually seems to be a great deal of android malware out there.
I just made a search in ESET's VSD update history and this is the result:
    http://go.eset.com/us/threat-center/threatsense-updates/search?q=android
New ones added almost everyday lately.

So having an AV/AM on your droid looks like a good idea.

I'm using Zoner, it's light and does not smoke the battery. I tested it with the AV tests and it caught all of them. I had tried the older version of Webroot and liked it except that it always scanned my device whenever I powered it on from an off state. Not sure if they corrected that and gave the user the option to do that.

Most of the mobile AVs, IME, scan on startup.

As someone else said, there is malware out there targeting Android devices. Also, unless this has changed recently, I believe Google don't vet apps in the same way Apple does so there is a greater risk in getting a compromised application on an Android.

Does the mobile version of ALYac use Bitdefender? I noticed their desktop programs mention Bitdefender.
