I've settled on in-built mechanisms, plus

    Sandboxie - many uses
    vmWare - full blown testing
MBAM free - just keep it installed, but rarely use it
Outpost Pro v7 - only turn it on when examining network stuff

    Chrome - primary browser
QTWeb - for online transactions only

Have gone from Chrome to Firefox. Turned on MBAM real-time protection. Did a fresh system install yesterday adding the minimum number of programs this time. Instead of using Windows Live Mail going to use Yahoo webmail from the ISP.

I have tested a lot of browsers (chromium, chrome, iron, safari, comodo dragon,chromeplus,opera,firefox,,..) and in my opinion if you want something really secure, take Comodo Dragon or Firefox with the right addons (noscript, https-everyhwere, https-finder).

However, I decided to stick with Firefox. Needs less memory, has the best addons (which also increases the security):

Chrome was acting buggy with some of the add-ons I'd come to appreciate in using Firefox for just the last couple of weeks, so I went back to Firefox. Thanks for mentioning https-everwhere, I've been meaning to try it. I'll go load it now. I tried NoScript but it made my sort of browsing too much trouble.

same here with noscript.. if you use https-everywhere, also try https-finder. Its an "addon" for https-everyhwere (it checks if the site you visit has a https version and asks you to save it as rule for https-everwhere)

    I'm so used to Chrome's built-in flash. :'(

anyone know where to download latest flash installers for different browsers. (not the web installer)?

I'm definitely spoiled by Chrome. I never have to worry about updating Flash or Flash exploits.

With a program like SecuniaPSI watching things, updating the Flash plug-in for Firefox is only a slight inconvenience which I accept for the security add-ons available in Firefox.

I really liked the new version of Norton 2012. But come to me full of bugs, Identity Safe not properly filled, there were certain problems with the interface and delayed startup of Firefox. After several days of insistence, I gave up. I will give a time in any AV on my laptop.

Interestingly, on my PC it worked without any problem. I can not understand. :(

Thanks for bringing this to my attention (https-finder), I'm going to check it out. I'm also going to try out Calomel SSL Validation.

The setup in my sig suits my needs so well as a user. I really don't see myself changing it any time soon. And Firefox 7 sounds really nice. It might just get me unstuck out of my ways with 3.6.*. But I will allow it to mature a bit first.

Hey I like your setup there lucid! I just ditched the AV on CIS. So I'm running Comodo firewall and sandboxie. I think I'll copy you and add keyscambler. That would take care of the keyloggers till I dumped my sandbox.
