Started fresh, installed Windows 7, made a Win7 System Image this time. Set up some old favorites: Sandboxie, Mamutu, MBAM, HitmanPro, Chrome. Didn't load a couple of programs that I felt were too intrusive, including Skype and Steam. In fact I want to try using as few 3rd party programs as possible. As for games, I'll just have one or two on the computer at the same time.

I'm surprised reading through the last several pages of this thread how few people seem to use light virtualization/instant restore technology (Returnil, Deep Freeze, etc.). I get by with Deep Freeze and Anti-Executable alone.

I'm going to throw one other thing out that some might not think of as a "security" measure, but it's exactly why I do it: I run portable programs from stand-alone folders and single executables as often as possible.

This thread has got to be longer than 'War and Peace' now. Good stuff!

Those things are way too annoying for me, and my dynamic computer. I would use them on a more static one though.

Got rid of WinPatrol as well, since Avast Behaviour Shield can do its jobs.

EMET at max protection (all internet facing apps added, pdf reader, openoffice,...)
    NortonDNS

    Real-Time protection:

    Appguard (thanks jmonge !!)
    Trusteer Rapport

    On demand:
    Hitman Pro
    AVZ
    Dr.Web CureIT
    Comodo Cleaning Essentials

    Firefox:
Adblock Plus (Easylist + EasyGerman, EasyPrivacy, Fanboy's List + P2P + Tracking/Stats Blocking + International Tracking/Stats Blocking, Facebook, Malware Domains)

My security setup gets more and more tools (started with CIS only) but so far I can't feel any slow downs.

IMO your setup could be without at least one less security application.

I don't use the AV, so I wouldn't know. How is Comodo TrustConnect my friend?

    And that would be?

CIS is the heart of the setup. Mbam Pro is a very nice addition (especially the web protection.. but the realtime protection has a great detection rate as well).

Trusteer Rapport seems to be one of the best security solution for online banking/shopping.

And Appguard is for me like sandboxie/shadowdefender for other people. It simply won't let anything execute (except its a non-protected app or I allow it).

Why would you need Appguard when you have Defense+ with Sandbox and Applocker? Seems redundant to me.

Hahaha the little bear killed malware lol :D

Even if it is automatically sandboxed as untrusted it will still have access to some of the system files?

Straight from Comodo Help File: Untrusted - The application is not allowed to access any of the Operating system resources. The application is not allowed to execute more than 10 processes at a time and is run with very limited access rights. I run with restricted personally and thats enough for me. For every security app you have, it increases your attack surface.

Ops you are right. Hmm but a trusted file (e.g. firefox.exe,mpc.exe,..) is allowed to execute other (non trusted) files ?

one thing I like in Safari is it blocks ad cookies.
hmm but there's no "click-to-play plugin"-like setting in Safari, I need to install an extension to do this.

so, bye bye Safari for now.
