Thats certainly better pricing, they were a bit uncompetitive with their old model, thats what put me off renewing. Still, very happy with the Eset now, so not changing.

    Sophos :thumb:

Used it on a MacBook a while back. Easy and light. And free lol.

I didn't have the same experience. It slowed down launch of some apps and also considerably increased the boot time.

As for all you ram worriers, Intego X6 has a Low, Normal, High CPU use button that I would assume is a the Unix "renice" command being used. This may help you ram worriers a bit.

Plus I read somewhere that Intego actually uses half the ram it says in Activity Monitor because of it is logging the same ram used twice through a screw up in how the log looks at different processes with the kernel hooks. This could be BS or it could be right, who knowso_O

ESET working great here. If they could just have a program update checker in place it would be awesome.

Never thought otherwise, running some AV (ESET or Sophos) and the in-built Firewall from day one.

    Hi people,

As posted here ESET Cybersecurity has some problems with some Macs and they hanven't been able to give the appropriate support.

Now I'm currently trying out BitDefender for Mac and it has been great. It also has been able to detect some brazilian regional viruses that others haven't. And it haven't slowed down my system a bit.

    Scirious.

    Hi folks :)

Mentioned earlier in this thread is a software programme called MacKeeper.
    http://mackeeper.zeobit.com/

It has its own in-built Anti-virus programme.

Does anyone have any experience of using MacKeeper?

Is it a genuine article or is it just another 'rogue' programme designed to part newbie computer users from their hard-earned cash?

    Comments will be appreciated.

    Dave

It is genuine. And they are also the makers of PCKeeper. :)

I know an associate that has used it, says it is light on his system. But he isn't sure about the detection rate.

Yes I know a Swede who tried it on his Mac, at first everything was going slow and after that he experienced his first Kernel Panic. :ouch:

So no it's nothing I am going to recommend using anyway :thumbd:
There are far far better AV's available for Mac OS X!

Hmmm. That doesn't sound good. :(

Mildly intrigued, I've read here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742 where it says ......

In rare situations, your Mac may stop responding and display a message stating "You need to restart your computer". This is called a kernel panic. In most cases, kernel panics are not caused by an issue with your Mac. They are most likely caused by an issue external to your Mac.

I'm pleased to report that I've never met a Kernel Panic! ;)
