Why Isn't There A "Boot Scan" Option In ESET Like Avast?

Because the cleaning is automatically performed on reboot just when necessary.

 

dont forget eset also have a rescue disc for removing malware when windows isnt running.

 

The Avast boot scan is allows you to scan all the files on your hard drive before any other programs load - useful in cases where you have an infection which cannot be cleaned because the "file is in use".

 

yeah, and exactly that is the way in which nod32 perform the cleaning on reboot.

Independently "boot time scans" are not always an advantage, thats the reason why ESET allows you create Rescue CD's.

A complete scan of files registered to run at system startup is performed on a system startup. What's more, real-time protection is loaded as soon as possible, ie. before potential malware is loaded and thus protects the system as early as possible. If there was a rootkit already active in mbr , no scans would ever help.

 

How can NOD32 detect rootkits then?

 

Hmmm... Not quite sure...
That's the reason for the boot time scanning.
avast has also a Rescue CD (paid).
Both features aren't incompatible, I mean, avast is doing a good job with its boot time scanning (and the CD).

 

Except for the CD room scanning - reading the data for the image restore.

 

For the rescue CD of ESET,I have not found it very intuitive to make... You need to install Windows AIK and i confess that i was affraid to do.. For newbie users it's not very easy...
