is spyshelter any good

does anyone have much experience with spy-shelter? because i was tinking about getting it since iots free through trial-pay program. or would i be better off getting keyscrambler?

 

I'd think you'd get better response in other malware section. Maybe the mods can move.

I installed and tested the demo versions of these two programs earlier this week:

SpyShelter Premium

AntiLogger
http://www.zemana.com/

SpyShelter Premium has a lot more features, and the paid version has x64 support (the free version does not). AntiLogger is a work-in-progress on x64 systems, and is lacking in some features. But I uninstalled both programs, and am staying with my current security setup.

Also worth noting is that SpyShelter Premium has free upgrades for life. AntiLogger only works for one year before the program shuts itself down.

Spyshelter is excellent. It has both antilogger and HIPS capabilities. It is vigorously maintained by its proponent. The freebie doesn't cover 64-bit, however.

Spyshelter's paid version is a one-off license fee. Ergo, I suggest you buy the paid version -- it is well worth the price IMO.

SS it's nice, light and efficient application...it's one of the best or probably the best anti-logger on the market.
I'm using SS and KS both in my computers and I think they complement each other in the protection.

 

I agree, also SS and Keyscrambler work perfectly together.
I really like the *RESTRICTED* software mode in SS!
Here you restrict programs (Browser, Instant messenger) to access only the directories you want. Also all admin rights are dropped and suspicious behaviour will be terminated.

This software together with Sandboxie makes it almost impossible to hit on my OS.

SS good protection for a small fee including lifetime! updates.
That's great as updates are frequent and Version 6 is already in Beta and we are promised some surprises

Well, I'm eating my words. I just picked up the registered version of SpyShelter Premium 5.42. I'm happily running it on my Windows 7 x64 system. It passed every test on SpyShelter.com and Zemana.com.

you guys said it has a hips feature,does that mean it wont get along with Online Armor? because it has a hips feature as well

SpyShelter runs well with Norton, but I haven't tested it with Online Armor. Maybe someone else has experience with this. But SpyShelter is designed as an add-on to your existing anti-virus and firewall software:

Look at my signature This combo work together few months (more than half year) and I never had issues, problems, conflicts between OA and SS. Both apps differently detect, differently react and just are complementary in the protection of computer. I don't remember "double-popup-alert-action" which colud make some problem and confusion and don't remember that my son (user of this machine) reported to me the problem

 

Is that a bit of a concern? OLA & SS spotting dif. stuff and not popping up on the same things? Do I read that as OLA is missing stuff & SS is missing other stuff?

 

If you use good Firewall with hips like Online Armor or Comodo Firewall then there is no need to install and use SpyShelter.

Good results of OA Free in "SS test tools" and HIPS module in OA and SS not mean that both programs work the same or are the same. Each one works, detects and alerts differ, each one has differ features and options, lists of trusted programs, etc...it means for me that both programs are complementary.
Just a simple example...I use FreeCommander that can make screenshots by using shortcut Shift+Ctrl+F10 - SS correctly detect this action but I didn't remeber pop-up alert of OA.

I feel naked with only XP firewall. What if SpyShelter misses something or you inadvertantly OK an action in SpyShelter, XP FW ain't gonna catch E.T. phonin' home.

Agreed. But a lot of us are responsible for other people's computers or at least have an input. And there are plenty of click-happy people around. They click at pop-ups like its an old space invader game. Click first, complain later.

 

I found Spyshelter to be good protection wise. But it seemed to interfere more often than not with legit processes and it was hard to make stuff to work (i.e. games). No matter how I configured it legit actions were blocked.

It's a bit too noisy.

How do I save the current settings on SpyShelter?

 

Try puting in autoblock and try to change user account control to a lower setting,.it blocks it from being altered.IMO thats a good thing. You can put your browser in restriced and block execution-acess denied,another great feature.



If something is blacklisted that should be whitelisted its easy enough to change to allow or simply put in ask user mode to turn it to a little power house hips and teach it to learn whats allowed or blocked.

Its protection is worth the effort and yes it is very good.

 

Tab "Black/White Lists" and button "Export all rules to file"...the same you can have from context menu...choose location, file name and thats all

 

Thanks for that. In a momentary lapse of reason whilst in the process of cleaning up the list for out of date rules I right-clicked and selected remove rule. But then just below I saw remove all rules. My pea-brain read that as multiple rules for one application and so I selected that one. And clicked O.K.
