Is there any way to disable this module permanently? I was able to do so in previous versions (despite dire warnings from this forum, and which somehow never caused me any problems for many years) but it seems I can only do so temporarily now.

    Thanks

(Sigh!) I had hoped to avoid this controversy yet again, but here is a summary:

Why You Don't Need Your Anti-Virus Program to Scan Your E-Mail
    http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

The fact is, if your AV doesn't detect malware when it is written to disk, it won't detect it by email scanning either (it uses the same signature database in both situations). My understanding is that email scanning poses a risk to Outlook Express, that I am unwilling to take. I have gone 12 years without it, with no adverse affects to date.

Now I am not asking anyone to accept this as gospel. All I'm asking is if there is a way to permanently disable email scanning in v5. I'm willing to take any risk this entails.

I believe some files are first written and parsed into memory, requiring special protocol filtering for catching such threats before they can be loaded.

You could well be right, toxinon. As I say, I'm willing to take the risk, and don't wish to debate the merits of email scanning.

Can no one answer my question?

Advanced setup -> Web and email -> Email client protection -> Email client integration, then deselect your Email application.

In addition to this, disable POP3 and IMAP checking, too.

    Thank you, JimboW and Marcos.

I just went through all the settings listed under Email client protection, and unchecked them all. My tray icon stays green. Much obliged.

If I ever regret this, I'll let you all know.
