    Hi folks!

First time poster, so please be gentle. <g>

I've had ESET's NOD32 Antivirus installed now for almost a year.
    I'm currently running version 4.2.71.2, virus sig 6472. (Win7 x64)

I just read that version 5 is out now and I've seen quite a few threads with problems already.
I guess that's normal in the early stages and I'm sure it will all get straightened out soon.

My questions are these: Will the program prompt me to Download/Install the new version 5 when my current license is about to expire? (12/07/11)

Is there any benefit to upgrading now, even though my current version 4 is working flawlessly?

Thanks in advance, and looking forward to some great advice!

Hi Neilyum and welcome to Wilders.

If I remember correctly, you will just get a reminder to renew the v4 license shortly before your current license expires. You will of course have the option of buying v5 if you wish.

The benefits of upgrading now all depends on whether you require any of the new functionality offered....

user who upgraded with no problem rarely post here !! So, never think that many users had problem, it is false. All program forum are full of user with problem more than ones satisfied !!

No, the program wont prompt you to upgrade. It will just notified you that your licence will expire soon. There is a new features in v5 that will notified the user of a new program release. But it is always the user choice to do it or not.

The benefit to upgrade now is to have now v5 new features and probably a bit better protection with v5. But here, i am trying v5 but dont upgrade av on pc of my children and members of my family. First, i have no time to do it presently. Second, the benefit that i am too busy is to wait and see how new v5 runs....

In your reality, it is your choice.

    Hi cozumel!

    Thanks for the quick reply.
The reminder sounds like a good option to me, but I'm a little confused now...
Are you saying I would have to actually pay to upgrade from v4 to v5?

no, you can up or downgrade for FREE to any version while your licence is not expired. Even after you renewed, for a less cost than your fist licence, you can keep v4 if you wish.

    Hi piranha!

Thanks for your replies! I think I might just go ahead and upgrade to v5 then if there is no extra charge during the current license. When my current license runs out in December, then I will have to renew for *either* version, right?

So it makes more sense to do it now, and benefit from the extra protection.
(Please correct me if I misunderstood you?)

One last question, did you install over v4, or uninstall v4 first?

ESET say you can install over v4 or uninstall it first.

Personally, I always prefer to uninstall and remove all previous traces before making a clean installation. It removes the chance of problems with installation...

    Thanks cozumel,

I am going to uninstall v4 first (just in case) and then install v5 immediately afterwards. I appreciate your advice! (You too, piranha!):)

I agree, clean install is better. IMPORTANT, dont use windows add/remove program but Eset uninstaller (all program, Eset, NOD32, uninstall...)

before uninstall, you can export your settings (including pw av protect, if applied). Just import them after installing v5.

Eset licence is not relate to a specific version. In fact, you buy the right and time to use a Eset product, availability of virus signature database update and program update itself.

Once again, thanks for all the advice!

I was going to use the typical Windows Add/Remove, but will use the ESET uninstaller instead. Also, good idea to export settings first, I didn't think about that at all!

    OK, here goes...

Ok, that's it for me, thanks again for all your help!
