    With 4+ at start up I saw the green task bar icon 'spinning' before and after the successful update definitions splash screen appeared.
    Always assumed this was indicating the startup scan was in progress.
    Now with 5+ I am seeing the updated screen but no spinning 'arrow' like before in the new icon. (like I see when doing a smart scan.)
    Just sits there with no animation.
    Is this normal behavior, is the startup scan functioning?
    I can't seem to find any log record of startup scans.

    Bud. Win XP Pro SP3.

    The startup-scan is still there but it has been delayed in this version until all system processes etc.. calms down a little.

    It starts around 1 - 2 minutes after the desktop shows. But it's really fast 5-10 sec so you might miss it. :D

    Hey Bud-

    Check out 'Advanced setup' and then 'user interface'-'graphics'. Take a look at what is checked or not checked. There are boxes to check for animated icons.
    Perhaps that may be your answer.

    Yep, you are correct SweX, it scanned about 2 minutes after the Database Update splash screen disappeared, all is well.
    @HealingStargate; good information.

    Thank you both.
