Sleep Mode in Windows 7 is almost as a good an option.
it only takes seconds to come back to life.

if more energy can be saved with this new method in Windows 8 so much the better.

Pummeling the user with popups isn't security. This is why Microsoft is offering money for innovative new ways to security. The future lies in techniques like ASLR, SEHOP, BottomUpRand, etc.

Windows should be optional when buying a new PC, and Microsoft Office should adopt OpenDocument as default...:D

Today is the big day...9 AM PDT. Rumors suggest, Windows 8 will be compatible with Smart Phones as well. My theory is, there will be two versions of Windows 8, one for Intel/AMD based desktops, laptops and tablets. And one for ARM based tablets and smartphones. Windows Phone will cease to exist.

I personally doubt Windows Phone will be replaced by Windows 8. This rumour suggests Win8 is for 7-70" screens.

Anyway, I have an HDD plugged in and ready to be formatted with the Windows 8 preview, just need the ISO! :D

iravgupta, you have not offered the slightest thing resembling an explanation. What you did was make an statement, albeit a potentially interesting one, and then refuse elaborate in any way when asked.

We aren't mind readers - we have no idea what has lead you to make that statement. The statement doesn't stand by itself; can we assume you just quoted it from someone more knowledgeable and don't actually know why?

Ironically, you then go on to whine in an unrelated post in the same thread:
Perhaps you need to work on your netiquette.

With the specs that laptop has you could make just about any OS boot that fast.

Let me spell it out for you -
    1. There is no notebook currently in the market that is as good in all respects as a MacBook Pro/Air.
    2. Using Windows 7 on MacBook Pro/Air is not a great experience.
    3. As for the comment on my whining, I was talking to 'funky', and it was a separate issue altogether, nothing related to you.
    4. Thanks for your suggestion regarding learning netiquette. I will consider it.

    What. the.

I don't know what to say to this. You genuinely believe that it should have been obvious from your original statement?

"There is still no laptop that does justice to the excellent OS that Windows 7 is."

Frankly it's quite a stretch to even think that this statement about Windows 7 has anything to do with Macbooks at all, let alone believe that the comparison is implied.

None of it is actually an explanation - but I'm starting to see that it's quite unlikely that you have any interesting or well developed thoughts on why you believe laptops are unable to take full advantage of Windows 7, so the point is moot.

    1. I never said laptops are not taking full advantage of Windows 7. Do not twist my words.
    2. I didn't write in detail because I am tired of repeating the same thing over and over again in my twitter feed, in a non-existent blog, to friends etc.
    3. My thoughts are not limited to MacBook Pro/Air. It's just that I have not seen single PC notebook good enough to replace my Pro. I love Windows 7, really love it, same with Windows Phone 7, but in both cases, could not find hardware good enough to match the goodness of these Operating Systems.
I hope this makes things clear. If it does not, you may be in need of the kind of help I cannot provide.

"There is still no laptop that does justice to the excellent OS that Windows 7 is." - Irav Gupta.

    This:
Yet in the same paragraph this:
    Right...

If not to properly take advantage of the OS, in what way is the hardware supposed to 'match the goodness' of Windows? Or are you saying Windows 7 is not good enough to use the hardware? Can you seriously not see the contradiction here?

Do you even know what you are saying?

Buses don't go where you live do they?

I don't think you have the ability to appreciate good design, aesthetics and integration. Hence you are not able to understand my point. Please get off my back.

We all think in different ways - so every cryptic statement you make isn't necessarily going to be obvious to everyone. The purpose of a discussion forum after-all is to communicate our ideas to others, so it's a bit arrogant to make mysterious references but say "I can't be bothered explaining it" when people ask what you mean. Why raise a point that you are tired of discussing?

We've not had a discussion about aesthetics or design, so you aren't in a position to make a judgement about that.

What is clear is that you are unable to properly develop an argument, or make yourself clearly understood to others. When asked to explain an ambiguous statement you were unwilling and - when pushed - ultimately unable to do so.

Windows 8 will have spell checking throughout the entire system - I had a feeling this would be the case of why it was ignored in IE9.
