Can NIS 2012 be installed OVER NIS 2011 or is it recommended to uninstall the old version and do a fresh install of the new one?

    Thanks.

    Hi Birdman,
You can install it over NIS 2011, no need to uninstall it.

    Thanks,

I must say I am extremely impressed with NIS 2012. I nearly as impressed with it as I was with Prevx 4/WSA beta. Both of them in combination will be terrific along with Sandboxie!

Really like NIS 2012, it's light and effective. I like the way almost everything can be set and tweaked to my liking. The interface is confusing, though. Where can I edit Scheduled Tasks in NIS 2012?

There is not much to edit there? I would like view/change/add/delete Tasks.

I'm very tempted to try the 2012 version but I would like to see some shots first:

    1. Task manager
    2. Ho many processes of NAV are running.

    Thanks.

Took a snapshot right now, six hours after booting this morning. NIS, not NAV, but they are about the same.

    2. Two ccSvcHst.exe

NIS 2012 is extremely light and smooth. Like someone mentioned earlier, no noticable difference from running without an AV / security suite at all.

Something you can do to help navigate the GUI is click the Advanced link on the main window. That changes the display to show how the features are grouped by category in the settings. Regarding Scheduled tasks there are two locations for settings; one is under custom scans where you can specify frequency of background scans, etc and the other is global settings for Norton Tasks which can be accessed by clicking the Performance link and then Norton Tasks (on the left side). Hope this helps.

Together with ESET and Webroot SecureAnywhere, Norton sells the best overall product in my eyes. Only one think makes me wonder: you have to pay extra money (Internet Security suite) to get the safe surfing, which is dependant on a toolbar. Paying for a toolbar, that is really something I do not like :D (ofcourse I know you also get the firewall, parental control, antispam and Identity Safe).

Nuff said. So you're actually not just paying for a toolbar are you?!

Liking what I see from NIS 2012 thus far. Very fast and light. :thumb:

In the past I've always DISABLED 'Identity Safe' (annoyance), 'Safe Surfing' and the Norton Toolbar because I've read that it somewhat slows down surfing speed on the browser.

Are those 3 features really needed/recommended? And if so, can it be tweaked to where it does not hamper page loading speed?

You can get the toolbar for free.

Although, Norton Safe Web Lite's browser support is outdated compared to the toolbar in Norton Internet Security and Norton 360.

And of course, you do not need the toolbar to get the protection from the Norton Safe Web database. There is Norton DNS.

Greetings. Newbie here. Firstly, would like to say thanks to all you great and wonderful folks at Wilders Security. This forum is very informative and instructive on matters regarding computer security. Next, seek your confirmation on NIS2012 which i installed over 2011. Noticed that smart definition is set to 'On' by default. Thought this was rectified during beta. Anyone having this default setting as well? Thanks.

Thought they might have put a bit of colour into the backgrounds. They are a bit of a waste of time ,being a different shade of black imo.
