well I have used vipre for over a year.. but clearcloud's ability to block malware sites is awesomeness redefined in my experience. and would pay for clearcloud over vipre on any given day..Just an opinion so please dont quote me for that. I would happily pair clearcloud with any free av..:)

I hope they do continue it. The ClearCloud DNS servers are pretty fast at resolving addresses. If GFI can't keep all of them up please try to keep the Sydney server running for the Aussies :)

Or maybe we feel there is nothing else we can do at this point but just hope our voices have been heard.

I went from a cynic to a hopeful user after reading Alex's post. He's just a guy trying to get by and ClearCloud was too good - it didn't cost me anything. But it was costing somebody something.

It would be worth it to pay something for the best ~Phrase removed~ product on the internet. Without ClearCloud it turned Vipre into just another AV program. It catches some and misses some.

I've had Panda forever and I didn't appreciate it's lack of telling me anything. I switched to Vipre and immediately I found three computers were infected. I implemented ClearCloud and I haven't seen a single computer infection since.

If Vipre goes back to the old ways I will have to investigate Panda/Kapersky again. :'(

    Jwilkinson,

The same block list that ClearCloud uses is also used by VIPRE Premium's Web Filter. If you are using VIPRE Premium, you'll have the same protection from those malicious websites, it's just implemented differently.

Maybe they could turn ClearCloud into a lightweight browser addon that uses the power of Vipre Premium? Then implement additional features and add a Pro version? For example...

CC Free blocks only malware and phishing sites. While Pro adds "download protection" and scans files that are being downloaded (using Vipre sigs) or something. Just an idea..

Nothing is 100%. And depending on when you last tried Panda, the detection has improved drastically. :)

Ok Nick so why would you sell an Av without a Web Filter? I'm talking about just the Av not not the Premium version. Don't you think that's a little backward in this day and age?

    Excellent questions, The Hammer.
I miss the web filtering protection from malicious sites.
It's particularly discouraging to me because I purchased Premium licenses but had to revert to Standard AV due to firewall issues.
    :(

Perhaps the v5 will include the webfilter in the standard version.
It have been asked on the beta forum.
I hope it will happen too.

Judging by the reaction of many on here, it must have been a great service. There's almost a cult following. Now I want to try it.

The thing about lifetime licenses is that after that first wave of money, things die down, then your motivation to continue support dwindles. I think an annual subscription would better ensure continued support. $4.99/year, a nominal fee. Can't charge too much because there are other solid options for free.

I'd pay it just to try it out.

Granted, it's not much use to me now since I'm using my VPN's DNS servers, and have a DNS leak fix that flushes my ISP's DNS cache on connection.

The only time I'm not using the VPN is to update Windows, and Firefox. WU shows me updates that aren't applicable to me, and FF just won't update at all through my VPN.
