If you press F5 and you look under realtime filesystem protection, ¿advanced setup is absent?

    sorry, you are right.

so what is the need to add Adv heur as you suggest before for runtime packer o_O

For Smart Optimisation => real-time system protection, setup, other, enable Smart Optimization (press F1 here and read).

There is a unlikely scenario where you have a infiltration in your hard disk. (existing before installing your AV or when you disable protection)
of course, you can manually scan for the threat.

It has been stated quite a few times, that it will be a September release.

That's the most accurate we have for now.

Beta testing started in 05.05.2011 and it would be symbolic if ESET would release v5 in 05.09.2011 :−).

P.S. In my previous message i meant word wrapping.

would we rather have a quicker release with less testing or wait for a more thorough release?

    This is a trick question:D

Looks like neither. Though they have been developing and testing they have not released a public build since mid June. For all of their best efforts there will be bugs that customers will discover that they did not due to a greater variety of machines and configurations. I hope for the best. Time will tell. I am anxious to see the final product.

There is no such thing as bug free software, paid or free.

Look at the MS operating systems over the years!

I agree that more issues will emerge after release whenever it comes.

Like you I hope, so all we can realistically expect is to minimize these "release" issues/bugs, malfunctions whatever they are called.

    Development never ends.
What we can expect is more stable builds as they will have sufficient quality for avoiding problems in most of the configurations.

Hello everyone.I have a question about the new version 5.
When the version Final is ready how we got to emigrate from 4.2 to version 5.0?
I got to uninstall version 4.2 and put the newone 5 ,or install directly on 4.2? Thank you.

That would be the best way, as this is a major new release.

How will this whitelist actually work? Just because today the file is clean, tommorow it could be replaced by a dirty file with same name ?

I doubt very highly that they use filenames only. They might possibly check dates and it is very likely they store some kind of file checksum as well (CRC32, MD5, SHA-1 or something).

Yes I agree with you there are those mathematical algorithms that are hard to fool but it has been done I was told. As well they could check the validity of the digital signatures .

BUT it is for ESET to tell us how this will work. I'm just speculating

I suppose the whitelisting (clean files) process is performed by manual sample analysis by the vendor, because if it were performed automatically then that would be reputation which is a estimation.

I don't understand what or why you are saying this?

In one way you suppose yourself ( not the same as knowing) and then say automation of a white list is based on manual sampling and would be an estimation? That I do not think makes any sense at all. Any manual process based on estimation is fraught with error for anyone wanting a solid white list.

It is not helpful to suppose for a vendor unless you are the technical expert for them here.

Eset should explain they wrote the programs.

Is very possible, other programs send basic properties such as filename, if it is packed, without digital signature, etc; along with hashes which can uniquely identify a file and avoid collisions.

I'm waiting for ESET to tell us how THEY will build and manage THEIR white list.

Generating speculation on how it might or might not work is going to create false ideas and lock in ideas that are NOT Eset verified.

    What value is that?

Due to the fact that the beta license expire at release date i have one question: Will active beta testers get a free license for NOD32 or not?
