I agree with you, Ibrad. But I assume he is referring to users who expect really fast scan speeds on slow connections?

Yes I was especially refering to users who had a lot of data. Sorry for the confusion.

Perhaps someone could compare the scan time with WSA then?

I'm planning on trying out this one, is it still blocking mail.yahoo.com?

I am bored of users who try to justify a scanning time penalty of around 100% in comparison to ESET (which scans in archives by default) by saying that it is cloud-based (although Panda Cloud saves a big offline cache). It is simply ~ Snipped as per TOS ~.

It is no problem, the word which was removed wasn't really needed for anyone to understand the sentence, but just an expression of my feelings. I just mean that the whole "cloud" story isn't a justification for the performance I am experiencing.

However I feel honoured JR thought it was "clever" :D.

... so do you like or dislike Panda Cloud AV overall? :doubt:

My opinion hasn't actually changed since version 1.0. I still think it is a program with great potential. But somehow I am not a huge fan of it (yet), although it provides excellent protection. Like I said in the What is your security setup thread, I still prefer ESET above anything else, since in my experience ESET has the least weaknesses (in terms of protection, usability, performance, etc).

I'm not sure idk how TM works exactly. It has do be totally cloud based (except for a small off-line cache perhaps) during scanning to be comparable.

I downloaded and installed Panda cloud AV for the first time last night on a low-spec netbook running Windows 7 starter (fresh install).

    So far so good.

    Connection is by wireless.

Full scan (total of around 117k files on 110GB partition) took around 80 minutes.

    FYI

    :)

    @ pbust

Hi pbust, I posted on the vip forum but had no satisfactory answer. Maybe you know it. My question is: "I bought a second license of PCAV Pro and I want to add to my account. How can I do?"

I installed this product and is working fine.
    I have a question: what are cloud-definitions and cloud-heuristics?

    1) traditional signatures/heuristics database updates stored in the cloud and downloaded by users?
2)individual signatures/heuristics for streamlining and downloaded by users?
3)signatures/heuristics used in the server for reputation classification?
    4) signatures/heuristics used in the cloud for threat identification in the uploaded data?

I guess option 1. I find the whole "cloud" idolatry nowadays quite annoying. It is meant to be able to continuously push new signatures/detections to users without having to distribute a new virus signature database update and hereby improving reaction time. Next to that Panda Cloud uses the cloud to collect data about possible threats to be able to make signatures for detecting those threats (if they really are). Moreover, they use the cloud to collect reputation data to define a risk level for a process, this will be used in version 2.0 for the application control.
Panda Cloud keeps a big local cache, in essence it is hardly different from a traditional antivirus in my eyes. I don't know where the behavior blocking rules are stored, locally or in the cloud. How the local/cloud distribution regarding behavior analysis is, is unknown to me.
As far as I know Panda Cloud doesn't upload files for analysis, but "reverse" signatures.

The only product which really uploads files for analysis in the cloud is Hitman Pro (and the dedicated online analysis services ofcourse), but only for unknown files. Earlier scanned files are just assigned the status of malware on hashes.

Just finished a couple of scans after installing 1.51 on my netbook. I ran an Optimized scan followed immediately by a Full scan. The Optimized took 14 minutes and the Full Scan 2 hours and five minutes. A full scan with Avira took 1 hour and 1 minute. It 's not a criticism just an observation as I shouldn't have to run a lot of full scans in the future and yes I know cloud scanning should be slower, and now that the cache is populated future scans should be a little faster. I'll probably run at least one more full scan in the near future just to see how much of a difference there is if any. Memory usage is extraordinarily low. I only see three processes after uninstalling the toolbar.

You should only see 2 processes, unless the GUI is open (either main window or scan window).
