I want to Perform a New File/Folder backup every other month and I have a question or two.
Goal to perform a New File/folder backup every other month ( two jobs ) one job for Odd months and one job for even months.

Then perform incremental File/Folder backups on each of these jobs to the end of the respective months.

So I set options to not create automatic names.
I set a backup for the respective folders and name it ODD schedule it for Weekly backup every 8 weeks starting on 9/01/11, select all days of the week.
I set another like the first name it EVEN starting on 10/01/11 ..

Is there a way to run daily jobs so that they only run against the Odd or Even jobs?

What I want to do is:
Create 1 new file/folder backup each month every other month, then perform incrimental backups to each of these jobs for a month at a time.
I want to end up with 1 months previous data followed by the current months backups.. or esentially no more that 2 months of data stored at a time.

I'm hoping for a solution similar to this as well, originally posted at:
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=304678

EDIT: I'm also looking into the Workstation version; I'm not sure what version you're using. And, when I started this thread I thought I had an easy solution, but as I thought through it, well, it no longer sounds simple and I can't be sure if it's even possible. It'll be interesting to see if someone else can either comment on my questions or share a brilliant solution. :)

What I was hoping to do is have the software create an incremental chain on the first day of each month, but delete the oldest chain after creating a third. Two other "cloning/backup" solutions I've used allow this.

Your thoughts might work for what I need, though not optimally. I'm looking to replace the buggy software I currently use and perhaps this option would be worth it for me. I say not optimally because I would like the software to have a built-in way to accomplish this.

Since I'm only reading about this software as a possible replacement so far, I don't have an installed copy. But there may be a way to use scripting to accomplish this task? Somone who uses the software would have to comment. I'm not sure if you can set up a schedule to work only bi-monthly, and have a script run afterwards to delete the opposite (old) backup afterwards. Or, you might have to combine the script mentioned with another which runs before the selected backup and cancels it if it's an even month. Honestly, I'm not even sure how powerful the scripting is - I've read too many manuals lately but it seems like I read Paragon allows you to invoke a batch command. I'm not sure, though, if a script would allow you to cancel the backup based on the results of a batch command.

Nah, setting all this up is more than I want to toy with - I want this ability built in before I'm interested. As I posted in the other thread, "cyclic" backups are ALMOST there for me, but not quite what I want/need.

This is what I am going to do now:
Create 2 File/Folder backups to run once every 8 weeks,
Create 2 sets ( Incremental backups each to run Tuesday through Sunday each running for 8 weeks starting each job at 1 week later.
    So for example:
    1st full backup to drive:\Alpha
    2nd full backup to drive:\Beta
    1st - 4th incremental to drvie:\Alpha
    5th - 8th incremental to drive:\Beta

I am thinking this will keep 1 months full/incrementals with 1 month current up to the day of the month and will overwrite ...

An interesting solution... I don't think the software I'm currently using uses a robust enough scheduling system to allow this. Please post back if it works for you!

This is a bit off the original issue but it does deal with data file backups as opposed to images of OSs that need to be bootable.

I am now using Paragon but have been a long-time user of TI. TI doesn't offer me anything because my method of working is more than satisfied by even the Paragon free program even if I have one major issue with it that Paragon says will be fixed. I only do manual, full images of my OS and Apps partition.

I refuse to use any data backup program that sticks my data files into a giant container file readable by the program and god-willing, Windows Explorer. If something goes wrong at any point there is a chance the whole backup may be lost and I have seen various posts verifying this does happen. Long chains of incrementals are not my idea of a good thing since any incremental past a bad one is useless.

My preference is to use a program like SyncBack or Karen's Replicator and there are lots more that can be found via Google. These files keep the data files on the archive drive in their native format, ie, the selected files and folders are structured just as they appear in the original. I have the paid version of SyncBack and it offers versioning so old versions of a file can be kept, a file comparison to check the copy integrity, etc, and the program can be scheduled. My backup runs at 9:00 every night.

My preferred archive target is a second physical internal HD - fast and no fooling around with setup. At a time of my choosing I then run a backup to a USB drive for off-line storage and as a second backup. Actually, I alternate 2 USB drives for safety.

Of course, you may have different requirements but this is my preference and I know from the True Image forum a lot of others have the same idea.
