Threatfire still good?

How good is Threatfire these days? Would it be any help on Win 7 64 bit? Is it still in development? Thanks.

 

Nevermind. It seems that TF isn't compatible with SandboxIE, so forget TF then.

Anything else similar to TF and IS compatible with SandboxIE, as well as Win 7 64 bit?

Yes many av's have behavior monitors now but I think many of these are yet in their infancy and not as refined as Mamutu.

 

Having tested many AVs myself, an additional BB like Mamutu (or Threatfire) is not needed. It's just another program that costs money, produces pop-ups, and uses resources.

 

Anti-malware software has evolved since the days of ThreatFire. I would have a look at the Webroot SecureAnywhere (aka Prevx 4) public beta. I don't know how it interacts with SandboxIE though.

 

I have to disagree. Mamutu uses very little memory and can alert to what an antivirus misses. Plus it's been offered free a couple time over the last few months. And even when it is not free it is relatively low cost. I don't think it's fair to categorize a product like Mamutu and Threatfire together, though. However you slice Mamutu, each person's taste and computer is different. Maybe some people do not like a bb while others do, same for computers. But I think personally Mamutu is a fine product and serves a need, better than most other behavior blockers and probably catches more than most antivirus products.

 

I've used Mamutu and Threatfire on and off over the years and I would agree that Mamutu is the better app if for no other reason than it didn't cause problems. TF caused some serious problems for me and others I worked with. That said I could never perceive any benefit to Mamutu. I realize that this is a "no win" situation for a Behavior Blocker because if it causes unnecessary pop-ups it's nuisance and if it's quiet you don't think it's doing anything. I would like to see it tested against the current generation of malware, in particular fake antivirus (scareware) and rootkits because these often circumvent standard security suites. If it can consistently alert against these then I'll reconsider.

 

I've gave up on Threatfire as my antivirus get better and better on behavior shield (detection and protection) and autosandbox. It was a pity that a good program was abandoned by Symantec imho.

 

Threatfire is pretty much not being developed anymore why even bother with it.

 

Thanks for the info. I'm running Antivir free and I don't think there is much of a behavior blocker with the free version. So still looking for a good free behavior blocker. Does Online Armor free version have some behavior blocking ability?

 

AVG has the old Primary Response Safe Connect incorporated into AVG free now (Identity Protection). Avast has always developed everything themselves, the behavioral blocker does look at autostarts and rootkit actions.

 

Online Armor is HIPS. The only standalone behavior blocker that is still developed is Mamutu. You could try on a trial basis to see if you like it but its not free so that might be an issue for ya.
