While Chrome and Opera have content on their NTP, Firefox opens a blank page with focus on the url/address bar.

Come Fx 9 and that may change: -https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Features/New_Tab_Page-

I hope they leave an option to have the (current) blank page.

I wasn't aware I needed "help" navigating anywhere. Frankly I cannot stand that "previous page" crap Chrome, Opera and I think IE 9 use. Opening a tab and seeing several thumbnails of places I've been isn't helpful, it annoys me to death. I certainly don't need to see a new page every time I open a new tab, I'll be leaving it in seconds to go where I want to go. Which, by the way, doesn't require a new page, it simply requires me clicking a bookmark or entering an address in the URL bar.

Yes, you can have it show 2 rows of your most visited websites, or:

Whilst I don't see this option in the currently nightly of Firefox, v9 is a long way off and it could surface.

In Iron/Chrome you can deactivate the speed dial anyway. I am not sure about Opera. I should imagine it will be the same in Firefox. I think this just may turn into a purists versus modernisers discussion though, not unlike some of the debates about SeaMonkey & its impending Firefox-isation. I'm not sure yet whether a speed dial will be beneficial to Firefox or not.

i already use the speed dial add-on so if a speed dial function was added to firefox id be perfectly happy with it. as long as its not the annoying "most recently/often visited pages" type of speed dial, i like to be able to set my dials.

    Hi Vasa1 :)

Up until Firefox 6 ... Used to use New Tab Homepage add-On for Firefox.
But sadly it's creator has now stopped updating it for new versions of Firefox :'(

    Luckily!
Somebody else has stepped in to do the job :D
Now I'm Using... My Homepage: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/my-homepage/#reviews

New Tabs automatically open my Homepage again

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    EDIT

Just noticed that New Tab Homepage has been updated: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/ :thumb:

So.. You can take your pick Now! ;)

    Have To Say...
Do prefer the way New Tab Home Page installs over that of My Homepage.
    However!
As I've already got My Homepage installed - & - They both do exactly the same job.
Can't see any point in me uninstalling My Homepage just to reinstall New Tab Homepage again.

Well, I've positioned the new tab button and the home page button next to each other and so get to my home page with two clicks instead of using an extension.

    Hi :)

With neither of those 2 add-ons... You don't actually get a Button!

You just simply get your Home Page appear each time you open a New Tab
