It is not designed to run alongside other AV software, the thing changed in 1.1 is that previously it wouldn't even install when it detected other AV software, and after 1.1 you can install it.

Hi, do I need internet connection to use Cloud Antivirus? Or I can install it in a computer without internet connection?

What happens If I lost internet connection? Will I be protected?

    Thanks,

Yes you need internet connection to install Panda Cloud, to install it without internet connection use the offline installer.

If you lose internet connection you still are protected, as Panda Cloud provides offline protection because it downloads a small cache of signatures. These signatures are for threats most commonly found within the community, so the cache is updated every time PCAV successfully syncronizes with the cloud. PCAV also has heuristics, a behavioral blocker, and disables autorun (by default) to protect against USB malware.

Yes I just discovered that you have changed your username. :D

Wich is good, because since windowsdefender signed up in Aug I have thought that you were him and vice versa several times :p Is that why you changed perhaps ?

No need to switch names again as cloud is the current buzzword in the industry and everybody either has it or is moving to it to some degree.

Back to the cloud. This one grows on you and for as light as it is, well, what can I say, a proven winner.

As I may have been harsh on Panda previously I though I would try the new beta on some malware that I collected this morning for a CIS test (posted on the appropriate topic) and added a few more.

I had a total of 16 samples, all of which were proven malware with the oldest showing up less than 18 hours ago. I did a on demand scan- Panda found and got rid of 8. Out of the remaining eight. one was typical ransomware, one was a Lock-em-All. As I had a feeling what was coming I cloned the Panda machine so that I could test both types. Sadly, both trashed the machines.

Looks like Panda needs to add something to its bamboo diet, like perhaps a Sandbox.

Did you test it using the URL filter (ie by navigating to the malicious site and trying to download the malware) or by double-clicking on the executables already on the system?

Panda was at default settings. Both the ransomware samples were downloaded from fresh links. You can find similar links now on MDL, although keep in mind that they are a bit over 3 hours old, so no longer totally new.

    Try it on a VM.

My question was if the malware was download while Panda was installed (and therefore allowing the URL filter to act) or if they were downloaded by you separately (another or no VM and) then introduced to the test Panda-VM and executed?

If you did download them on the test VM while Panda was active, can you please provide me those missed URLs in a private message?

Sorry I wasn't clear. Steps taken:

    1). Panda installed
    2). Links to ransomware found
3). First file downloaded from links
    4). File run
5). Result as specified in previous post
6). above steps repeated on the clone machine with 2nd ransomware file.

    Much clearer, thanks.

Can you please PM me the missed links and date/time of test?

I installed the 1.9.1 beta to check the scanning times again. I just launched the first scan all My computer scan.

Currently running for 10 minutes and it is still on 5 per cent. Damn sure I hope the progress in per cent is inaccurate, otherwise the scan would take 20 * 10 = 200 minutes / 60 = 3.33 hours. For an amount of data which would be scanned in <30 minutes by products like avast! and AVG and in 35 minutes by ESET.
EDIT: Seems to be speeding up a little, still, really slow.
    15 minutes, 12 per cent. 15 * 8.33 = 125, 2 hours and 5 minutes

Another question, has this firewall been designed to run next to Windows Firewall, or should it be the only firewall running?

The second scan should be "dramatically" faster ... :D :doubt:

To be honest, if this first full scan isn't completed in less than let's say 2 hours and 30 minutes I am not even going to do a second scan.

    EDIT:
After the first hour it all of a sudden sped up dramatically. In total it took exactly 1 hour and 30 minutes. Which is an improvement of about 40% compared to 1.5 final. Nice.
