Not really news as we were pretty much told this from the beginning and to just state "September" could mean anywhere from 12 days to 6 weeks from now.

My license will run out on Oct 17th 2011, I guess I should wait to buy the new 2 year license, I buy the 2 year for 3 computers, until V5 is released. Thing is that there are sales now on Eset products, I wonder if these prices will be available for V5. I can live with the retail price on the web site if I have toi, but Amazon is a pretty respected online retailer and I get the box and the CD, ( not that is it necessary to have that but I know its legit). I think if V5 does come out in Sept I will just buy it on the Eset webpage.

If you buy a license now you will be entitled to use your username / password to download and update v5. Updates to newer versions of ESET products have always been free for existing users.

My license also runs out next November. But I will renew before that, like I have been doing for 4 years now and always get a little discount. :)

Awesome. Looks like I will be renewing. Got to email Eset to see if they are offering any discounts.

    Thanks for the video post!

Lol, ESET should start making video games. On one hand it is an insanely cool and nice made video. On the other hand I wish they spend that money and time on improving HIPS in automatic mode for the final version.

    Hello,

All of the videos, such as that short one posted to YouTube, are done by an outside agency. The only impact it has had on ESET's coding efforts is a few minutes of time when the developers stopped to watch it. :)

There are a lot of people at ESET working very hard on the v5 codebase to ensure it is released not just in a timely fashion, but also as high-quality fast code which will work without problem. That said, this is not a short sprint to get across a finish line but rather a long marathon, and ESET's programmers, QA engineers, architects, project managers and all the other folks who go into making a software release a success will be working on any fixes needed as well as improvements and new features.

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky

They hopefully bring the android to life in next years, ROFL.

I expect automatic security with improved detection rates/and low false positives.
Hopefully the file reputation can reach such goal.

I expected so, but I just wanted to point out what really needs some work in my eyes, HIPS in automatic mode.

Could you comment on how ESET sees HIPS in automatic mode in let's see a year from now? What was the exact idea behind implementing this HIPS? Will it use reputation data gathered in the cloud to make decisions? Will it be visible to users what kind of rules are used in automatic mode?
I ask this because at this moment, it is really nice that you have a good working HIPS mechanism for advanced users, but for normal users it doesn't improve protection. Which means that at this moment HIPS in automatic mode is kind of useless except for providing self-defense.

Also, could you comment on the answers posted in the "RC available" thread:
    1. What is meant by "Advanced heuristics/DNA/Smart signatures" option in the ThreatSense engine parameter setup. I am familiar with advanced heuristics (emulation and code analysis) but DNA and smart signatures are newly added in version 5.
    2. Will the window size/position bug be fixed for the final version?
    3. Don't you think it is a little strange that EAV and ESS share text in the "Tools" section of the GUI. Informing me that I can view statistics about spam, or watch network activity in EAV is simply lieing to me.

AV heuristics try to determine the behavior assigning scores.

    Active heuristics:
Heuristics applied directly to the application's behavior.

    Passive heuristics:
Heuristics applied to the application's code.

Is like analyse the file in a practical (you run the file and monitor the behavior) and theorical way (you look at the file for suspicious instructions).

I was mostly kidding anyway. :D
I'm sure we all appreciate all of the hard work everyone involved is doing. We're just all very anxious to see the final product. At least I assume most would agree with that.
