Checked out their site. Bytehero System Defense sounds interesting. Anyone ever use it? I might download and try it later.

Hardly. Just did a system scan containing a download folder with 6 malware items about 8 hours old.

    Results: found nothing.

I do, however love the box for the “Quack Scan”. Just Ducky!

(Note: the 6 files mentioned above were undetectable by any as of 7 hours ago when both HMP and MB picked them up. Current- a few minutes ago- VT rate was 6-8.)

Heuristics detect many good files e.g. mbamgui.exe as a virus, yet fail to detect many malware from zero day to months old samples (Using high setting).

Used as an anti-executable it does a reasonable job, providing you deny execution of anything unknown to you, though it will happily let sinowal sail through due to it being launched by a trusted process - regsvr32.exe. If you allow execution of malware, though don't add it as a rule (trusted), there are very few infections that will trigger any further alert. SpyEye was contained, provided you denied execution at the next alert for the dropped executable.

Samples tested ZeroAccess, SpyEye, Sinowal, TDL4, Cycbot, ngrBot, PersonalShieldPro.

The heuristic engine of Bytehero is good. I tried it many times in past. will try the new build. Can anyone post download link of the system defence software?
