    Precisely... I think. :doubt:

Shouldn't there be an image below The Protected Applications panel opens. This panel shows the web browsers on your system and any other applications.?

I assume yes, it seems that the help files are work in progress, Joe will be able to answer that question:)

Fwiw I can confirm that only one of my browsers (IE9) was added to default list of protected applications when I installed 7.9.0.4. The others FF3.6 and 5.0.1 I added manually. Perhaps this might have something to do with issues I've seen and reported earlier.

Thanks. That's what I figured. For banking I would run the browser unsandboxed with Trusteer Rapport or SafeOnline, and use a different sandboxed browser for general browsing. It sounds like that is probably still the best strategy. :)

I tried on two occasions to install this MS update and received this error message.

Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB2468871)

    Installation date: ?12/?08/?2011 02:29

    Installation status: Failed

    Error details: Code 643

Turning off WRSA, enabled me to update without an issue.

That doesn't inspire me with confidence about the product and is another reason I want AV only like Prevx used to be. I have no interest in all this extra stuff messing with my system.

Had a brainwave (dangerous that :D) and did another, very careful, methodical
clean install with all security software disabled...but alas, this time no browsers at all were in protected apps by default. Perhaps I'm beyond help :D

Could you send a scan log to report@prevxresearch.com? It certainly shouldn't be blocking updates.

    Thanks!

I am getting the padlock on every site I visit but I did go the Identity and Privacy tab then into View/Edit Protected Websites and changed some settings so that might have something to do with it.

My concern is with the Firewall module. I am only getting five ports showing stealth and all the rest showing open over at Shields Up. Anybody else testing the firewall?

Testing 7.9.0.4 on my XP x32 SP3 test machine, with Sandboxie and the latest stable Google Chrome. All settings are at default. This is by far the most invisible AV suite that I have ever tested in terms of system impact. As I type this the two processes are totaling under 2,000k of RAM, and when I open a program, it just snaps open like there is no AV installed................... I can't speak to protection because this is a real machine, but damn, great job on system impact!

Not sure how the firewall works yet... but I think it controls the applications only. You have to activate Windows Firewall as well to be perfectly safe? Then again, not sure how it works yet. :D

I think wsa's firewall provides protection for outbound connections only and should be used in conjunction with windows firewall which controls the inbound connections.

That's precisely how I think it works. WSA's firewall monitors applications and the outbound connections these make.

If the fellow who had problems with ShieldsUp! doesn't have the Windows Firewall activated, that might explain it.

I've actually asked the webroot beta team about it and this is what they replied,"The WSA firewall is able to work with other firewalls because it is a Firewall Extender. This means that it works with and augments other firewall systems, even including the Windows Firewall if no others are installed.Primarily, WSA's firewall is an outbound firewall, preventing threats from acquiring more parts of themselves from the internet or from spreading to other computers on the LAN."

I hope this will clear any confusion.;)

Good, I like the idea of these firewall "extenders" a lot to be honest. For example, Trend Micro also provide a Windows Firewall booster instead of a standalone firewall.
On Windows 7 the built-in firewall is simply a great firewall, especially at what a firewall is meant to do: keep hackers out. But the advanced settings user interface which you need to cover outbound traffic more detailed might seem complicating at first, here the firewall extender comes into play. Therefore, we see other firewalls relying on the Windows Filtering Platform, like PC Tools Firewall Plus. That basically makes PC Tools Firewall Plus also a firewall "extender."
Since Vista I never had a third-party firewall installed except for firewalls included in suites and I never felt like I missed a firewall such as Online Armor or ZoneAlarm. Also, the firewalls in most suites, such as, BitDefender, ESET, AVG, avast!, G Data, Avira, McAfee, Panda, F-Secure and so on are not better than the Windows Firewall. Probably the only exception is Kaspersky's firewall.

Windows Firewall plus Webroot Cloud Antivirus firewall plus a modern router gives you bulletproof and hassle-free protection.

More on topic, during the closed beta I reported a problem where my pc wouldn't boot anymore after the first reboot (or shutdown and startup) after install. This problem seems to have been fixed.

Well, my idea is to use windows firewall plus avast internet security(which includes firewall) plus WSA plus a modern router.

I just got confirmed at the avast forum that I can use avast firewall with win firewall and that it has been tested for compatibility during development.
One of the guys further said,"Currently IVP6 support in the windows firewall, which isn't in the current avast firewall. But IVP6 is still some time away from being absolutely essential."

And I also have been unknowingly using the two firewalls together.
You see when I used to have comodo it turned off win fw automatically. I expected the same with avast. But it did not. I just found about it two days ago. I had to manually go to the win fw settings and turn it off.

I noticed no conflicts during that time. And what's more interesting, I actually began using WSA beta about half a month along with the other two.

This is what gave me the wonderful idea.

I also use WSA and Look'N'Stop Firewall on my laptop still without issues and with a Router but it's nice to be more protected when I'm not home and using Hot Spots or someone else's connection!

Just to let you know that I only use WSA with all heuristics set to the Max and HTTPS is at Max and HTTP set to High with LNS and WinPatrol Plus in realtime and no issues with the early Beta's and the current release! But have the most common On-Demand scanners if needed!
