mp4 working fine on YT here ;) -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mw1tN-zfR9c

    mp4.gif

YT only gives you what others have uploaded. If they didn't upload an mp4 then it's not the fault of YT !

DLH is itself 3rd party software, but in the browser. As would ANY other such software be, & is.

You havn't tried VideoCacheView, but again unless it's an mp4 to begin with ....

Because scanning software is not 100% fullproof. ALL scanners can miss some malware, especially new malware. But with softpedia, I wait until many 100s of people download and install the program and if it was infected, Softpedia would hear about it rather quickly and pull the program off the download list.

And on the topic of saving youtube videos, I will just stick with "fast video download" and then convert the FLV files to MP4 using my Tipard Video Encoder program.

    Thanks for all the feedback.

    What's YT videos?

And UMPlayer doesn't work!!! Everytime I right click on a youtube video and select to record, it gives an error, "Recording failed. There was an error in retrieving the download URL". It won't even play the youtube videos.

I bet all these problems I am having is due to a youtube update to their website code??

Are you playing the video in the highest quality and then checking VDH?

I just see the VDH at top left as an icon, above the video. Not anywhere else and definitely not an MP4 format.

In the VDH "options" make sure that under General --> Appearance tab that both "Icon Animation" and "Show in Status Bar" are checked. Also in option under "Capture" tab --> YouTube tab "Show widget to access services from within YouTube pages" is checked.

DownloadHelper has never failed me. Because of the way I have my settings in both DH & ABP, the icon doesn't show up for me. I just go to the "Tools" tab in Firefox and use it from there.

    Great add-on :thumb:

And they just updated it twice in the past couple weeks, so seems like the development is still going strong.

A couple of days ago, YouTube changed their page structure, as it has
happened many times before. This caused DownloadHelper and
other downloaders to fail detecting videos in formats other than FLV.

Video DownloadHelper has released a Alfa version that takes care of the
problem, the addon can be downloaded from here.
    http://www.downloadhelper.net/install-beta.php?version=4.9.5a1

I already tried it and its working fine, displaying all available video
qualities. DH fixes YT issues very quickly.

make sure you have the latest version- 4.9.4. Also, if the video starts playing in a lower quality, stop it and then let it load in the highest quality and start playing again. Then check the VDH icon and see if you can see the mp4.

Wow, same here Bo. 4.9.4 didn't work for me at all. But the Alpha works great, and even offers heaps of different downloads, e.g 720p, 480p, FLV, MP4 etc. :thumb: :D

Thank you Bo, a great find ;) I would never have known about the Alpha if it wasn't for you.

For the last months, I've been using these two video Download sites without a problem!

I cannot get that to work for me. It doesn't appear anywhere on youtube page, nowhere at all. So I removed it.

I am now using the DownloadHelper ALPHA version which works terrific, thanks to Bo :thumb: :argh:

YouTube Downloader works for me. It will download from other sites too. It also includes a converter and player.

Edit: Sorry not an add-on and not portable (that I'm aware of) but it works great.

Odd. It should be right next to 'Share', as shown below.
