Doesn't need AV, because it's Linux-based and uses Chrome security (like sandboxing).

Personally, I have no use for such a limited OS.

    The internet is suddenly limited.

How is it that people manage to think this?

edit: I'd definitely get one if I didn't have a cr48. It's perfect for a netbook OS, though I'd obviously keep my windows computer (as it's always intended.)

He said a limited O.S. which it simply is. It limits you to browsing the web. He never suggested that the web was limited.

Neither of those are reasons why it doesn't need AV. I suggest you read up about the fundamentals of ChromeOS to see that the O.S. itself isn't designed to run other programs.

As long as a computer can get online it's not limited.

And the fact that it's linux based IS a security boon. Same as Chrome's security scheme. Not to mention other OS built-in security features. Otherwise a rooted device would be in trouble (since you can install programs.)

Where is the difficulty in comprehension? He wants the O.S. to do more than just browsing, and ChromeOS is limited to just browsing. The difficulty in understanding this boggles the mind.

That's not what he said, read his post.

Browsing + media player + terminal + file browser, yeah.

You can gain root and do plenty with it. Rooting is incredibly easy, there's a switch on the right side of the Samsung notebook and a switch behind the battery of the CR48.

How do you like the CR48 Hungry Man?

Do you think the Chromebook is worth the price though?

    I like my cr48 quite a lot.

Yes, I think it's worth the price if you know what it is and you think it'll suit your needs.

    Hi

Can't Wait To Get My Chromebook

I've already bought myself a lovely little laptop bag to put it in :D ... Now just need the Chromebook to put in it :'(

Why Havn't I Got One Yet?

    Coz...
At the moment you can only get the Samsung Chromebook in the UK.
    Approx: £350 WiFi - or - £400 3G
Way To Expensive + You Can't Change The Battery

    So...
I'm waiting for the Acer Chromebook to become available in the UK.
Going on USA prices I'm hoping it will come in at no more than: £250 WiFi - or - £300 3G
Battery can be easily removed like most laptops - So... Battery Should Be Replaceable!
Planning on buying the WiFi only version.
Then when I go in hospital I'm going to buy myself a pay as you go 3 MiFi : http://threestore.three.co.uk/payg/dealsummary.aspx?offercode=DSLPP527
    That way...
My son can visit me and connect his iPad ( That He Never Puts Down ) to the internet.
    And when I go home...
I'll be able to keep my little MiFi router as back up broadband :D
Note: Tried to post a great little You Tube video showing how the New MiFi Router is so easy to use.
For some reason the forum wouldn't let me :doubt:

Why Do I Want A Chromebook?
    Coz...
1/ Spend 99% of my time in my browser anyway ( Firefox - or - Chrome )
2/ Want internet in hospital without worry of updates for this that and everything.
3/ Want quick access to the internet for times when I just don't have the time for Windows Vista to Boot, Update etc.

I'm pretty sure that this price will drop considerably after a while. The Acer looks a good bet though, I reckon the price for those will also drop. I think that the real test for the success of the Chromebook is if they can be a cheaper alternative to netbooks with Windows.

    Hi Daveski17 :)

    Reckon You're Right There!

Also think that if Acer play it clever and keep their prices low... Acer Could Well Be The Chromebook Winners! ;)

Not a Facebook user myself and neither is my son.
But I know so many people that seem to think that computers are all about Facebook
Never use their computers for anything else... Give Um a Chromebook!
Then you've got the little ones that make their parents go :ouch: with every click.
Christmas will soon be here again... Give Um a Chromebook!

The only thing I can see Chromebook falling down on is... Not Having Java.
As kids especially tend to use Java rather a lot with all their online games.

    Personally!
Although I can't wait to get a Chromebook and I just know it's going to get a lot of use...
It will not be a replacement for my Vista laptop.
Just a nice little extra

I agree on the java. It's silly that it isn't supported.

Yeah, I'm keeping an eye on the market. I can wait a bit before I buy a netbook/Chromebook but I'm pretty sure the prices will drop considerably after their initial introduction, particularly if they sell well, especially in the big chains like Currys & the like.

Lower prices huh. Probably not as much as buying one without OS (or even parts).

Never heard of a Linux OS not supporting Java.

Well, I can't see the point in buying a netbook that is more expensive than a small laptop which has more power & functionality.

Functionality is not a price-point. People need to understand that Windows is so heavy because it has tons of support and services that you'll never need and they're all bundled and packed together making it impossible to remove some of them even when you don't need them.

You are very much paying for the REMOVAL of functionality for an increase in performance.

Well, it's one way to look at it. But I still can't see the point in paying more for a machine without an optical drive than for one with one.

    I've Been Naughty :D

Temptation got the better of me :ouch:
Could wait No Longer for the Acer Chromebook.

    So...
I've bought myself the Samsung Chromebook

The battery is supposed to last 3+ Years.
By then Chromebooks should be as cheap as chips anyway :D

    Loving It!
