How strange... I've noticed no slowdown whatsoever. EMET by nature does not use (virtually) any resources. Software incompatibilities, however, are not that uncommon with EMET and that is likely what caused the issue.

I personally believe that any security setup that incorporates "common sense" or "being careful" isn't perfect. If it were perfect you wouldn't have to worry.

    uff...
    calm down.
Have some eggs and bacon in the morning, a half pound steak with fried onions for lunch, a pint of bitter every six hours, a couple of Whiskies before bed... you'll be alright.

I'm pretty calm, but always alert.
No need to quote that, I'm eating fine. Not into alcohol though.

It's compatible (on-execution) and has a good IP blocker. Light as well.

One program is light. But a few light programs stops being so light. Your setup is powerful without it, I can't imagine it serves much purpose though I suppose I could say the same about Panda.

Avast Internet Security, malwarebytes antimalware, hitman pro. Looking for a free imaging software. Then my setup will finally be stable and complete.

I decided to uninstall ESET release candidate 5 again to have a look a few products. Do not panic, ESET will be installed again after I am done.

I tried the following products (again):

Panda Cloud Antivirus - Extremely slow scan speeds are still there, however that doesn't surprise me, since submitting a log collected by the diagnostic utility was left unanswered. I will try it again when it hits version 2.

Microsoft Security Essentials - For some reason I always try do this product again, I love its simpleness. However that comes at a price, if you really need a product with good detection and protection (I actually don't, my safe computing/internet habits are enough) I wouldn't use Microsoft Security Essentials. Also its scanning speeds are really slow. Most importantly, the stupid update mechanism; I don't understand why Microsoft does not simply let it update twice a day by schedule. I don't see how that could be disadvantageous to Microsoft and why they therefore opt for the once a day cycle, if it updates at all. Also, in my eyes you should not need to fiddle around in registry to get a proper security product.

BitDefender Internet Security 2012 - I directly uninstalled it after installing, since it pissed me off. I can't really explain why. Maybe it is because I dislike the fact it installs toolbars and it is not really light. In short, BitDefender products and BitDefender-based product are just somehow not my cup of tea (I also don't like BullGuard, G Data and F-Secure despite their great protection, maybe they are even great products).

avast! Free Antivirus - I currently still have it installed on my pc, it is really quick. It is good to see that opting out for the gadget and the web reputation component during install really doesn't install them, also nice you can disable the social network ads (I do not know how lang this option has been available). avast! is just a great product, by far the best of the major free products. I heard they are already working on version 7, which will feature an updated user interface. This user interface is easy to use, but I would like it if it would be some more "modern" or "sharp", some cleaner lines. If they could further improve avast! for version 7, it could join my very short list of favourites: ESET. Next to that I would then also consider improving the Dutch translation, since the language, grammar and punctuation used in the interface pisses me off.

As per my signature. Real time protection handled by Kaspersky and MBAM. KeyScrambler to prevent any form of keylogging and Hitman Pro for on-demand scanning. Acronis for hard drive imaging.

Panda has been a good one for me and there have been real improvements from version to version. The only quirk that still annoys me is the rather slow scan times. Plus there is a firewall on the horizon for Panda Cloud...YAHOO!

Swapped out ZoneAlarm Free for Online Armor Free. I think this one may be a keeper.
