Good CPU temp monitor for laptop

Ease of use and free would be good.

All this core stuff means little to me. Can I use it on XP Pentium4. It has 2 processors but that's all I know. Mobile Intel(r) Pentium(r) 4 CPU. In devices it says ACPI Mutiprocessor PC. I look at Everest sometimes but it seems to only report drive temperature. It says Sensor Type is HDD. Then the temp for WD drive.

 

This one clearly says Pentium4 not supported

 

Speedfan has the best compatability IMHO.

Any comments about the screenlets available for Linux?

After reading Mack Guy's experience, I thought it better to keep at least one eye on the ball.

 

Pentium4 doesn't get its temp readings the same as other CPU's, its dependent on super I/O chip on the motherboard (example-Winbond W83627EHF super I/O). This chip comes from various makers and MB's use the various types between models. Many of these I/O chips aren't accessible or supported by software.

You can try HWMonitor or SpeedFan to see if your P4 I/O chip is supported.

 

Try HWMonitor. It displays all temps in a neat concise window.

 

I use CoreTemp along with Igor's SystemMonitor II gadget. The gadget is very customizable and you can see CoreTemp's data within the gadget. The gadget has a lot enabled initially but you can turn on or off just about everything and both are free. He also has some other great free gadgets.

 

Thanks all. I decided to go with Core Temp.

Question. Core #0 is consistently running 10-15 degrees higher then core #1(35-21 varying). Is this normal?
