I have a Samsung Galaxy S II too.
    Kaspersky runs fine here.
It can be installed since version 1.5 until 2.3.4 that I'm using right now.

Thanks for the heads up; I tried it a couple of days ago but it froze my phone on both occasions.

Tried again today and it installed fine; go figure!:p

Will keep an eye on battery usage but the scans are very SLOW compared to other AVs I have tried.

Seems very feature rich compared to rivals and it may be a keeper as I can get it for free through my Bank.

    Hi DonKid,
Do you face any such issue, where you are able to kill it simply through Galaxy S II task manager?

I have to restart it manually every time, after I use task manager to free up some ram. Please check and report back, it doesn't happen with my SE Xperia ARC.

I have the latest firmware for both the phones.

    Thanks,
    Ziaul

What exactly is the point of an android antivirus? Considering that all applications are installed via the market place where you can see how many downloads it's gotten, user comments, access priveledges, I can't see how anyone who's aware of malware on the OS could possibly need an AV.

Just as an update to the Webroot Customer Service: after my initial inquiry about the false alarms I have had no contact from Webroot, except one response saying the issue was still being investigated. This has went on for nearly two months without the issue fixed or even attempted to be fixed, as far as I can tell. This customer service experience is similar to the days of SpySweeper. I'll be testing out a few different apps now, probably theftaware and dr. web.

    Hi Hungry Man,
It's not necessary that the av is being only used for malware prevention. There are lot of features like remote wipe, track your phone, call & message blacklisting, hide messages and contacts etc.

Atleast I am using it for all those purpose, instead of using different softwares for different purpose.

    Thanks,
    Ziaul

Ah, I see. Yes I can certainly understand something like tracking the phone/ blacklisting callers. Malware prevention seems like a waste of resources on its own though.

What version of KMS are you using ?
I don't have any problems with it.
Kaspersky is developing a new version that will have self protection and uninstall protection.

Some mobile AVs include anti-theft features while others do not. Currently I'm using F-Secure for anti-theft and Dr Web for AV. It's worth noting that with some phones it's possible to download/install from sources other than the "market". Having malware protection makes more sense in that case.

Update: Decided to uninstall Dr Web and try Zoner AV. Zoner installed without issues. It places an icon in the notification bar which is a good thing. I want to be able to see that the AV is running. Most AVs have an icon, but not all - for instance Bitdefender AV does not - and you don't want to discover after the fact that your AV was shutdown for some reason. A full scan of the phone only took about a minute, and contrary to a comment on the market there is the usual update feature for new "sigs".

FWIW I've used Dr Web on and off and it works fine. They were giving away one year subscriptions a few months ago. That offer has finished, but you never know when it will kick in again :)

I haven't tried TheftAware yet, but from everything I've read it looks like the "best of breed". It's the only anti-theft app that completely hides itself. There's a trial available and it's also still being heavily discounted.

I'm trying that combo now even though Dr. Web flags TheftAware as malware. I have a key to the paid version of Dr. Web but I don't want to use it yet as there are several complaints in the Market that the call filtering does not work.

    Hi DonKid,
I am using the latest version (9.10.76) available in the android market.

Try this, open your messaging app or music app, then go to the task manager. Click on ram, and clear memory.

Don't click on active application, usually it happens when you try to clear memory. Please check and report back.

    Thanks,
    Ziaul

I can't test this version because my version isn't from Market.
In this case you have to contact the support here.

I prefer Cerberus (can use both a web site and SMS to control, can install on up to 5 devices and transfer it to new phones, etc.). It can also hide itself on rooted or un-rooted phones (on rooted phones it cannot be removed by using wipe data/factory reset, only by installing a new ROM).

    Hi DonKid,
    Thank you for your help.

I will report this issue directly to Viktor. I was a Beta Tester for KMS Symbian and I am not testing for the last one year, due to lack of time. But thanks anyway.

    Thanks,
    Ziaul

Ditched Dr. Web to try out Zoner.
FWIW- the "scan device" takes less than 30 seconds on my phone- although I have no idea what the effectiveness is.

26 minutes? You installed it on a phone and not a desktop PC, right?

Maybe some incompatibility between your phone and Dr Web. Have you tried any other scanners?

I have tried about 8 different Android AVs and all of them complete a scan between 20-50s.
