Yes, it's security. But can be found for 0 dollars. Internet is big ( and there are no only super risky cracks and keygens outside )
May be. But softwares developpers must live. If nobody buys their product, the software dies. Someone remembers System safety Monitor ?
Yep.....great program for that time.......bought a license,but it didn't help much... Poll jumps directly from 200 to 400 $,but where's the 300$? That's probably what I've spent over time..
as far as paying for acronis, seagate and wd give a free version that verifies you have a drive of theirs. I make the cd and uninstall. then I do only cold boot images and when I have had to re install an image never had a problem with it. also when I delete a file accidentally I can restore the file. I only use the freebies and no one seems to be hurt yet from lack of finances.
0 on most of my computer But i have one with Bitdefender internet security 2011 I bought it very cheap about 16$
I haven't paid for any security software... ever. I either get licenses from friends or I seek out free alternatives.
Zero dollars over the past two years or so. Using freeware versions of MBAM, Keyscrambler, Sandboxie, Comodo Time Machine, and the Plus version of WinPatrol (via the free upgrade offer in 2009) on XP Home SP-2 with IE 7. Backup and restore via Macrium free on the Hiren's Rescue CD and Paragon 10 (Rescue CD as well-free license per the Wilder's giveaway last year). To the best of my knowledge, my computer has been infected only once using this setup. Malware was detected and removed by MBAM. Very often, I do download an application to try but the last actual purchase was in 2009 (Bitdefender suite).
If you mean in total then mine would be well over $400. Been using computers for years and i annually buy upgrades for certain programs plus i'm always trying out new software which has me spending even more. These days i'm a little more self controlled and only buy what i consider to be necessary. For everything else i've switched to free versions.
When you ask that question, I think you have to also ask as of what date. When I bought my first WIN95 computer I was a babe in the woods. I experimented with all kinds of software that I wasted money on. Fast forward 14 years and I'm lean with only a few paid apps, usually just to support the company.
To buy the MBAM, Sandboxie, Keriver 1-Click Restore and Shadow Defender must have been about $100 dollars. Annually (That's only with the NIS, but are 3 PCs and Ad Muncher) should spend no more than $50 dollars.
Seagate drive has to be inside a desktop to have free Acronis available. Can't use it as external in an enclosure or a dock. Don't know about WD ones.
Zero dollar(or rupee as I can say), there are tons of freeware around that can compete with the paid applications and also there are many giveaways so even getting license of fully functional software is easy. And as far as helping the developers are concerned I do help them by during BETA testing. Atleast I can't pay for them but do support them as long as I don't earn
Between 0 and $50. I don't mind paying to support development and besides the paid versions of security software often offer features, benefits and protections not seen in the free versions.
https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=193904 Back in 2007 I started a similar poll, personally I spent a lot in the past, nowadays on a new machine I would buy only an imaging application.
50 dollars on Norton Internet Security 2011. I'm not using it right now, but I will install it again on the more powerful laptop that broke and is on repair atm. Before that, can't really remember well. Probably around 50 dollars with a Norton AntiVirus box, bought in a hypermarket back in 2001; and 30 dollars with McAfee Virusscan Plus download package, bought as part of an internet provider plan back in 2004.
